Record Early Snow on Mammoth Mountain, CA (Video)
“Mammoth Mountain, CA received over a foot of snow today,” says RF the Weather Nut. “Last year was a record breaking year with 668 inches of snow and yet in October 2010 they received just 10 inches of snow. Mammoth Mountain averages 5.2 inches of snow in October.”
“More snow is on the way tonight and tomorrow.”
“It snowed 23” in October 1992. 25” in October 1996. 38” in October 2000. 85” in October 2004. 34” October 2009.”

Here’s a link to a must-read article on the upcoming ice age.

This “must-read” article says that ice age now is wrong. It says that the next ice age has been postponed indefinitely. I answer that silly contention here:

I sincerely don’t mean to insult your opinion on ice ages, but I must remind you that it is physically impossible for an ice age to begin within a year or so, because it takes several thousands of years for the northern ice sheets to gradually accumulate mass and advance south.
I also would like to add that no climate scientist has ever argued that the present day temperature is unprecedented. With respect to the majority of Earth’s 4.6 billion year geologic past, temperatures have actually been much higher than they are today, despite that fact that the sun was dimmer. And the main reason for this is higher carbon dioxide concentrations.
When someone argues that, because climate has warmed naturally in the past and therefore humans can’t warm the climate today, is tantamount to claiming that a careless camper can’t cause forest fires because forest fires have occurred naturally in the past.
The global climate is governed by the balance between incoming solar radiation and outgoing infrared radiation. Anything that perturbs this balance can change the climate. Our knowledge of past energy imbalances and climate changes provides strong evidence that humans can change the climate today. The Earth’s history shows that when the planet is thrown out of energy balance, postive feedbacks amplify the climate change. This is why the climate has changed dramatically throughout Earth’s history and why were capable of changing it today. If the climate wasn’t sensitive to radiative forcing, the climate would never have changed. When carbon dioxide levels increase, whether as a result of natural processes or human activity, more infrared radiation will be trapped by the atmosphere and re-radiated back to the surface, causing warming. This is in accord with a fundamental principle of physics, conservation of energy. The warming effect of carbon dioxide has been known to physicists since 1861.
