The winds were so strong that a 330-foot-tall (100-meter) wind turbine spectacularly caught fire at Ardrossan, while pilots landing at Scottish airports battled to get their planes down safely.

The strong wind has closed every major bridge in Scotland: the Forth Road Bridge between Edinburgh and Fife; the Erskine Bridge, which connects Renfrewshire and Dunbartonshire; the Skye Bridge; and Tay Road Bridge.

I loved the comments. One said the turbine couldn’t possibly have burned like that in the wind. One said all turbines should end so spectacularly. The second I tend to agree with, and the first, I can only say, I guess Americans aren’t the only poorly educated people in the world after all.
Another windmill is reported to have blown over this morning, leading to evaculation of surrounding houses and closing a road. If you live in Britatin you’ll know how stringent are the ‘elf ‘n’ safety laws here so perhaps the ‘elfnsafety people might now state that all windmills must be removed as dangerous to the public.

Did anyone notice the palm trees in one of the pictures? The gulf stream is a wonderful thing! The palms are a natural “import” in Scotland.

I don’t believe in global warming. I still remember my Historical Geology professor telling the class that a Ice Age could be started with a increase or decease in the temperate of 5 degrees. For the people without power they can belame the J.P. Morgans and Rckfellers , who supressed the free energy tech of Tesla and T. Henry Moray and even today are supressing free energy devices. I also remember a CoasttoCoastAM radio show where the guest said the British Isles would be cover giant glaciers and unlivable. Is this starting to happen,
So many well educated and well funded folks have looked at Tesla’s work that I have to believe if we could make it work it would have been done already. We aren’t living in the dark ages. Everything is on the web. If some genius somewhere could make Tesla’s theories into reality it would have been done.

don’t know where the 165mph figure came from, I live about five miles where that turbine blew up and the wind here barely passed 100 mph. Imagine what would happen if the speed really reached 165 though.
“BARELY PASSED 100 MPH!” Snap man, thats pretty darn fast. Hope your home held up well. We had 90 MPH gusts here on the west coast of USA few years back, lots and lots of damage. Though my wife was going to lose it.
165 mph wind is category 5 hurricane. It was most likely 165 km p/h. what’s amazing is the fact that the BBC could put out such a report and not realize there’s something seriously wrong with the figures.
The winds weren’t that bad here I felt there was a bi hype up by the media, yes trees were blown over, chimneys fell and pensioners umbrellas were blowing inside out but I remember worse winds than this, 20 or so years ago I watched the wind tear the sides off the industrial units, blow whole roofs off and sides of buildings (gable ends) were wiped out.
