4.7 earthquake strikes Hawaii
At least 20 aftershocks.
The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) recorded a magnitude 4.7 earthquake located beneath Kilauea volcano’s south flank on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at 4:36 p.m. HST.
This earthquake was centered near Holei Pali about 7 km (4 mi) south of the Pu‘u ‘O‘o crater and 15 km (9 mi) west of Kalapana.
Preliminary data indicates that the earthquake struck at a depth of 5 miles (8 km) and was centered in the vicinity of Kaena Point, Puna, about 4 miles south of the active Pu’u O’o crater on the Kilauea volcano’s east rift zone.
The earthquake raised no threat of a tsunami, and no damage was reported at the time.

Are You Prepared?

I recommend this DVD

That is scary stuff. At this same location is perched one of the most immanent, if not the most immanent possible natural disaster to ever occur in recorded history…..in 2002 an event occurred there that did not make the news, and if it would have played out, adios L.A….. 14 slides responsible for mega tsunamis have been mapped out around the Hawaiian islands.

Wonder if lava flow increased?
I am from So Cal a 4.7 earthquake is no big deal here. What everyone needs to be aware of is whats around Seattle, WA. Two different teutonic plates.
If those plates rub against each other go bye Seattle and possible most of the West Coast. Why does everyone think that big one is going to hit in LA. Just They don’t pay attention to other areas that are a lot more dangerous. The press and the so called experts are talking up the Yellowstone super volcano. They pay no attention or even mention the other super volcano in the US Longs Valley Caldera. Longs Valley is also over due for a eruption and is located closer to major urban areas than Yellowstone.
