The temperature in Australia’s capital dropped to the lowest in recorded history, says this article on news.com.au.

The temperature at Canberra Airport dropped to just 1.6C early this morning – the lowest January temperature ever recorded. The previous record low was 1.8C set in 1956.

“We’ve had a lot of records beaten for a minimum temperature for January over the southeast of NSW,” said forecaster Peter Zmijewski.
