  1. Rhys Jaggar says:

Did the Mayans think this is what was going to happen at the end of their Grand Cycle?

    • Bill says:

The Mayan thing has been somewhat discredited, not so the electric universe premise, nor the Z. Sitchin premise about Summeria & a long-dead planet where the asteroid belt presently sits between Jupiter & Mars.

So much still unknown, and while “academics” continue to debate methodology and conclusions, entirely new data keeps popping up all the time. For instance 20 years ago, no pedigreed academic worth his sinecure & tenure would have dared to openly declare the Milky Way alone might have as many as 50 billion [with a 'b'] exoplanets.

But that’s exactly what Borucki at NASA’s Kepler Project did back in February. It’s no wonder Stephen Hawking told us to stop announcing our presence to the galaxy, and he got rather adamant about it, too.

The “Mayan thing” has to do with the end of the long count marking the “black rift” according to elder Mayans. I am not sure that has been discredited at all. They don’t claim that it marks the end of the world, just the return of an event – I assume an astrological event. I once read that we were about to pass through the plane of the galaxy, and if that was the case, the “black rift” might very well be the dust that has accumulated in the plane showing up as a black stripe, or rift, across the bright center of the Milky Way. There may be associated cataclysmic events due to a potential peaking of galactic gravity, but that would be all, and not necessarily a prediction of “the end of the world.” Besides, the Mayans would have had to live through a complete cycle of the calendar to know what might happen unless the calendar was passed to them by a people that DID live through the last cycle.

        • C. Peter Davis says:

The Mayans said there were three cycles and this is the last one. They say there will be a great change. It could mean destruction, it could mean upheaval and a new beginning. There are definitely great changes taking place right now and they might come to a head on or about December 21, 2012.

          • FRANK says:

We got the ‘Great Change’ in 2008. And, as the Maya predicted, he’s been a total disaster.

        • Power Grab says:

Hmmm…”black rift” makes me think of the layer of nanodiamonds.

          Any comments, Robert?

      • FRANK says:

Yep…. I thought it was a really bad idea when Carl Sagan became an advocate for, and designed, the ‘Pioneer Plaques’ which went into space aboard Pioneer 10 and 11.

Seriously, when dealing with even a very remote possibility of an encounter with intelligent beings of unknown disposition, isn’t it better to keep out of sight and out of mind rather than advertise where you live, what you look like, and how feeble you are?

How many of us would walk through Central Park handing out leaflets with our photograph, name, home address, home phone number, and our work schedule? Obviously only those who choose to live dangerously would do this.

  2. Kenneth Lund says:

    well…..some action for a change for 2012 ??

  3. Carla says:

Correction re number of Christchurch aftershocks: 2nd of January alone had 50 very good shakes !

  4. John says:

Nah nothing happening here. Go about your business. Move along. Nothing to see. These are not the droids you are looking for.
Seriously though. Quakes happen all the time. Is there someone or some organization saying that these are statistically significant? I mean besides Robert of course. Its nice to have a little company.

  5. reezeh says:

I always wonder when the conversation goes to the 21/12/2012 alignment:
Gravity can create a lensing effect; but can gravity from a distant source be lensed by a closer source? And if so, what might happen to a body that has stabilised itself to conditions outside that alignment.
In other words – a black hole at our glactic centre (~4 Million Solar mass, and our Sun).

  6. FRANK says:

Kind of reminds one of that movie …. 2012! LoL

  7. Mr. C says:

And a super volcano in europe showing signs of life. it is gonna happen. It gos of every 12thousand years or so.
