THIS HAS BEEN AN EXTREME WINTER FOR SEA ICE IN THE BERING SEA AND NOW WE HAVE BROKEN THE RECORDS FOR MOST NUMBER OF DAYS WITH ICE AT BOTH SAINT PAUL ISLAND AND SAINT GEORGE ISLAND.
AS OF TODAY SEA ICE HAS BEEN AT SAINT PAUL ISLAND FOR 103 DAYS THIS WINTER BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 100 DAYS SET IN 2010.
THE NUMBER OF DAYS WITH SEA ICE AT SAINT GEORGE ISLAND TOTALED 79 WHEN THE ICE RETREATED NORTH ON THE 25TH OF APRIL. THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 60 DAYS WAS SET IN 2010.
THE SEA ICE EDGE TODAY IS WELL SOUTH OF SAINT PAUL ISLAND AND ICE IS LIKELY TO REMAIN AT THE ISLAND THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF MAY.
THE SEA ICE IS NORTH OF SAINT GEORGE ISLAND TODAY BUT ICE IS FORECAST TO PUSH SOUTH OF THE ISLAND OVER THE WEEKEND DUE TO COLD NORTH WINDS.

Good news! A publisher in Italy has now translated Not by Fire but by Ice into Italian.

This site shows that there is a lot of sea ice very close to the Icelandic coast, more so than in the previous few years. The northerlies which have been affecting the UK for the past 6 weeks seem to be pushing this ice southwards.
Clearly all this warming going on is taking its toll, what with record sea ice and all!
Been keeping records since the ’80′s, and the previous record of days was 2010? Hey Al! Do you find some “inconvenient truth” in this?
IF my intuition about the prompt response of the sea ice extent to strength of the solar cycle is correct, we should have more “good news” like this in the following months.
See for example, the figure.3 in the following link
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/05/03/another-sea-ice-record-in-the-bering-sea-plus-april-sea-ice-summary/
IMO it clearly shows an increase since 2007, but the main comment of Anthony Watts refers only to the “decline of 2.6% per year since 1980″.
If you analyze in detail that graph you’ll see that this decline has also clearly disappeared after 1997, again showing that we’re facing a prompt response of the sea ice to the strength of the solar cycle.
The only year of decrease in the extent of sea ice since 2007 is in 2011, which is the year with strongest intensity of radiation from the Sun in the present cycle.
Mere coincidence, of course not. Is anyone else noticing this? I don’t know.
Just another example of a colder climate, especially since 2003 when ice and snow records increased dramatically.
Where are the record ice and snow records increasing dramatically??? I know that 2012 is the year without a winter in the lower 48. I know that April was one of the warmest in Texas in the last 50 years. I know that west and southwest Texas is already having triple digit heat. If there is global cooling I know that we certainly aren’t seeing it in southeast Texas. It looks to be another firecracker of a summer to us, and summer seems to be starting earlier now, and ending later, it doesn’t really cool off noticably until November.
Yes Dale, I sure do wish some of the alleged global cooling being talked about would come our way before I’m too old to enjoy it!!!
short hot summers coming your way and loooooong cold winters.
britain has one of his warmest days ever noted down in the maunder minimum time!!
Looks like the news finally hit the big time, for it is on Yahoo.

Domino effect coming in place now? More ice and so more of the sun’s rays get reflected and so on….
Definately cooling down!!!!
