Ireland – Wettest June on record
Flash floods leave some areas under three feet of water.
Ireland has been hit by torrential rain as the summer disappears again. Emergency services are struggling to cope with the flash floods across the country as homes are left without electricity.
The towns of Douglas, Bandon and Clonakilty in Cork are badly flooded with some areas under three feet of water.
In Belfast, “Most of the main arterial routes in east and south Belfast are impassable due to flooding, abandoned cars and debris,” a police spokeswoman said.
Ireland’s weather service Met Eireann issued a flood alert to more than a dozen county councils with 70mm of rain forecast to fall in parts of Munster, Connacht, south Leinster and the midlands.
“The worst of the rain is over but it has been the wettest June on record,” said forecaster Evelyn Cusack. (Italics added)

Evelyn Cusack thinks it is all over. Not yet it isn’t! Bad today but looking better tomorrow and then bad again Monday/Tuesday. But to be sure we needed a drop – problem is we got millions. Me spuds are soggy! (Co. Mayo)
gee…I hope Leprechauns can swim!
Our weather forecast for the coming week shows that there will be no break in the current soggy summer weather. The indications are that much of this month will follow the pattern set in June. However, the UK Met Office is hinting at the possibility of drier and sunnier conditions later in July. Their long term forecasts are not very reliable.
You would think we would be well used to the wet weather being on the Atlantics doorstep but it sure does get you down!
I’m sitting here now and I can’t even see the Dublin mountains under a blanket of rain clouds.
All this extreme weather around the world must point to a serious shift in our climate, it’s also become noticeably cooler the last few years.
Has anyone seen Joe Bastardis winter weather prediction for UK I quote his Twitterpage dated 24th June-
“Heh UK look what I have for you this winter, core of cold more like 09. Better get those wind turbines ready”
And winter 2009 was coldest in Ireland for 50 yrs.
