In April, UK forecasters predicted a barbecue summer to rival 2003
“I guess they meant the underwater sort of barbeques,” says Bruce of Newcastle.
“I saw the article “Soggiest summer in history?” in the UK’s Daily Mail a couple days ago, so was stirred to go see what the predictions were before summer started,” says Bruce.
In the UK Telegraph 21st May: Forecasters predict barbecue summer to rival 2003
Long-range forecasters “expect hot and dry high pressure systems, comparable with patterns which delivered the 2003 and 2006 scorchers.
“Weather Services International, part of the Weather Channel, said the ‘pressure blocking’ system which made recent summers cool and wet has disappeared.”
And the champion all-time for useless predictions, the UK Met Office in the National Grid Summer Outlook Report of 13 April:
“The Met Office probabilities for summer temperatures show a slight weighting towards above normal.”

“Well done that supercomputer!” says Bruce.

Are You Prepared?

I recommend this DVD

Forecasters…..you are sacked !!!
Is this really a surprise to anyone? The Met Office have a greater success rate of getting LRF’s spectacularly WRONG!
Remember their BBQ summer and mild winter forecast of 2009/10? Oh dear…
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1255779/Met-Office-drops-long-term-forecasts-fiasco-years-predictions.html
Then in October 2010, they predicted that the winter of 10/11 would be “mild and dry”
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/8090325/Met-Office-data-suggests-mild-winter-but-dont-forget-last-year.html#
… it turned out to be incredibly cold and snowy, and broke many records!
If the Met Office told me that the sky was blue, I’d be inclined to look outside and check for myself! They’re about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike!
You know, way back when, folks looked at the barometer, felt the wind, looked at what the birds were doing, threw in a pinch of intuition and could pretty accurately predict the weather 3 days out.
Now days we have computer models, dedicated geosynchronous satellites, thousands of remote reporting stations, college educated meteorologists around the world, entire branches of governments and militaries all dedicated to predicting the weather. Because of all that they can now pretty accurately predict the weather 72 hours in advance.
When will the mainstream meteorological hierarchy, both in academia and in practice realize that maybe they have gotten it wrong?
I thought the met office stop the seasonal forecasts these are the same one openly admitted there’s has been warming for 15 years they were right about big highs this summer they forming in the place hints why UK wet and cold it proves how stupid they if there super computers said he sky was pink they believe it this leopard has not changed its spots if iceage was here now they still say global warming I would take customers charter mark they are incompetent and corrupt but what would you expect anyway part of climate gate its up to us to have the met office to close down the met office as they use corrupt data
They did actually say somewhere that the lower level of sunspots was going to delay the actual warming for about 30 years but that man-made warming was only being delayed by the lack of heat produced by the sun. In other words, it will get colder then, when the ice melts, it will get warmer. The cold isn’t our doing but the heat is. Duh!
Obviously there’s more than one way to get “shrimp on the barby”, though I think I would prefer the method where the cook places them there as opposed to them being able to swim up onto it themselves
.
If anyone wants to see what the UK Met Office prediction was probably like, I’ll remind of their forecast from winter before last – which was extremely cold, with the local councils all running out of road salt because of the forecast of a warm winter.
A copy of that cold winter forecast
While its hard to predict anything in a chaotic system like climate, you’ve got to feel sorry for them a little. They can’t just say “We won’t give you a prediction” because if they did this the government would say “OK then, we won’t give you any money”.
Actually, most of the money is on 3 – 5 day forecasts or 24 hour forecasts.
Seasonal forecasts use a miniscule part of their budget so I don’t see why they CAN’T just stop issuing them.
there were some metheorologists that predicted(in spring) rainy and below average temperature for UK during this summer, but those that predicted hot weather are more interesting
—may I suggest to our American friends that if they want to cool the heatwave over part of their country and rain to douse the fires, all they have to do is get their government to appoint a Minister for Drought (as we did in Britain in the hot, dry summer of 76) or just announce a hose ban (as they did earlier this year) and it will start raining and the temperatures will drop to winter-woolly cold wihin a couple of days. That’s what happens to us.
Didn’t Piers Corbyn predict a wet and cooler summer some time ago? My understanding is that his forecasts are more accurate than the Met, but his website, http://weatheraction.com/, is so damned messy it is difficult to sort out what he is forecasting!!
One Super great Boat Anchor for Sale..
apply Met Office UK.
Until people realise that newspapers are only interested in selling newspapers and getting ad revenue, they will continue to read such articles as credulous people.
I ignore anything any newspaper says about seasonal weather forecasts because their track record of accuracy about almost anything is so hopeless.
Well this is a first the Met office have actually admitted this is the wettest June in over a century!! and check out those low temps too.

This year, when there have been heat waves in many places in this country, there has been a cry of global warming going on. News Bulletin! Global warming has been going on since the last ice age ended. Sea levels have been rising for thousands of years. There have been warm periods and cold periods. None of this was caused by humans but are parts of natural cycles.
Now, the process seems to be reversing but there are still pockets of hot air, mostly around Washington,:) but also in various places. Those pockets seem to be shrinking a bit from what I have noticed. I think that the cold, both north and south presses the heat toward the equator as time progresses.
GB and Ireland is set to have a difficult harvest season if this incessant wet weather continues. Root crops are at serious risk as are the wheat and barley yields. It is often too wet for sheep shearing. The producers of UK wine are likely to be hard hit.Prices of staple foods such as potatoes are sure to rise by the autumn. And all this at a time when people are already being hard hit by rising prices.
Didn´t know where to place the next article on increasing solar max with 2013 being the ultimate year, so I decided here. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2170985/The-suns-solar-flares-getting-stronger–latest-hot-spot-size-15-Earths-strung-together.html#ixzz20BBDf76x
At present I´m reading belgian author Patrick Geryls fascinating second book, `worldcatastrophe in 2012`, in which he further outlines the amazing, same`holy`numbers used by both ancient Egyptians and Mayans, one prominent number being 666, as regards to astronomical figures indicating the fatal killshot at the end of 2012. And once more, the solar magnetic reversal, due this year, will trigger the reversal of the inner magnetic core of Earth, resulting in a reversal of axis rotation and a tremendous geological upheaval, according to Geryl. Apparently these axial reversals have been recorded in ancient egyptian and roman annals, so it´s no mere fantasy.
For some reason,I haven´t reached that section yet, once every roughly 12.000 years, the regular 11 year cycle of solar magnetic reversal causes the core magnetic reversal within Earth and now we´re due for another one. So first major upheaval, then a possible iceage, as has occurred many times according to Robert Felix, if I´m not mistaken. Hope this info won´t be deleted !
