“New Little Ice Age’ extreme weather is taking over.”
A “nightmare.” “The weather has affected crops immensely.”

Britain is facing its “worst ever” summer with cold wet weather ruining family holidays and blighting the Olympics, forecasters warned last night.

August is set to be a washout following a miserable July and the wettest June and April since records began – meaning summer is effectively over.

Parts of the Midlands and northern Britain are bracing for six inches of rain – more than two months’ worth – in the 72 hours to tomorrow night.

Forecasters MeteoGroup last night described this summer as “the worst since records began”.

“This is as bad a summer as we can get in this country,” said forecaster Paul Knightley

Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services echoed those sentiments, warning that, “(August is) already set to be in the top five wettest on record.”

“New Little Ice Age extreme weather is taking over.”

Meanwhile, over at WeatherAction.com, Piers Corbyn expects “a July of dramatic contrasts and likely record-level extremes,” and warns that “New Little Ice Age extreme weather is taking over.”

Corbyn thinks “off-scale rain, thunder-floods, giant hail, gales & tornado damage” are likely in NW Europe, while Eastern Europe can expect record or near record heat wave with forest fires likely.

The weather is also expected to affect food supplies.

Fruit farmers in the Tonbridge area this week warned that the “nightmarish” summer weather could reduce this year’s apple crop by half.

And cherries are likely to be even worse hit, according to Golden Green farmer Mike Hibbs, who said a dry spring followed by weeks of cold, wind and rain had left him with nothing to harvest from five acres of orchards.

Describing the situation as a “nightmare,” Hibbs said: “The weather has affected crops immensely. This is the worst season we’ve ever known.”

Although bad I’m sure it is not as bad as 1816 known as the year without a Summer with low solar activity like now enhanced by the Mount Tambora eruption that caused the worst famines of the 19th Century see the Wikipedia page.

It would be a good idea for farmers to learn about scandinavian agriculture and get ready to farm in a colder climate and if need be relocate further south.

I saw the article “Soggiest summer in history?” in the UK’s Daily Mail a couple days ago, so was stirred to go see what the predictions were before summer started:

In the UK Telegraph 21st May:
Forecasters predict barbecue summer to rival 2003

I guess they mean the underwater sort of barbeques.

And the champion all-time for useless predictions, the UK Met Office in the National Grid Summer Outlook Report of 13 April:
“The Met Office probabilities for summer temperatures show a slight weighting towards above normal.”

    Well done that supercomputer!

Hang on there it’s still coming! We are still to max out on the solar trend and should be full force in the cold period around 2014? My thoughts..

Yes it’s crappy weather but we brits just adjust accordingly. Britain is all about dissapointment, and the weather is no exception. We get one week of nice weather and the country grinds to a halt, we get 1 week of rain and the country grinds to a halt!
I set a gazebo up so I could work on my bike in the rain!

grain crops will be totally wiped out I wopuld say.
some root crops might manage to survive if? theyre on higher land that can drain fairly fast.
    summer? really?
    warming???
    you don’t say:-)
I notice the warmists ARE rather quiet at the moment.

Nice that Piers has been proved all too correct again.
he tried hard to get warnings out, and as usual copped flack at being a showman and a wildcard.
he sure IS owed a lot of apologies.

Apologies and a Nobel prize (not that they mean much anymore but the money would be nice) for work in the field of metrology. Imagine if meteorologists around the world implement his theories? How much misery could be avoided?

Back in March, us folk in the UK were basking in sunshine, with temperatures in the mid to high 20′s (°C). We dusted off the suntan lotions, we filled the paddling pool for our kids, and we sat in the garden wearing shorts and sunglasses, supping ice cold summer fruit juices. Many were expecting a summer that would rival that of the Mediterranean… but not me! I fear something terrible is brewing!

I have absolutely no meteorological experience, or forecasting ability, but I predict that the winter of 2012/13 in the UK will be one of the coldest, and snowiest for many years, making the winters of 2009/10 and 10/11 look mild in comparison… and I think things will only get worse!

When the weather is hot in Britain people then complain about the heat.
