Central Australia – Coldest winter in a decade

With much more cold on the way, Alice Springs could get close to its record of 44 freezing nights set in 1976.

“Much of central Australia is experiencing an unusually frosty winter, the frostiest in more than a decade,” says this article by Brett Dutschke of Weatherzone.

I don’t know why Dutschke calls it the “frostiest” in more than a decade. Why not call it the “coldest”?

Regardless of what you call it, “Alice Springs has chilled to zero-degrees-or-below 24 times so far this winter, 12 times more than the winter average” says Dutschke.” This is the highest number since 2002, when there were 36.”

“Leigh Creek, in South Australia’s far north, has dipped to zero-or-below 10 times so far, the most in at least 30 years. This beats the previous winter record of nine, set in 1997.

“A similar story can be told for much of the outback.”

With more than 40 nights of winter to go - and much more cold on the way – ”there’s a chance that Alice Springs will get close to its record of 44 freezing nights, set in 1976.”

So much for global warming.

by calling it Frostiest, she IS actually saying its More than just cold!
frost to aussies means 2C or less for the ice to form,
and were talking spots, that are usually low at 15C
our deserts are known for dry cold so nasty that the rocks explode at night, Gibber plains etc following really hot days. but not Alice itself.

With parts of australia having there coldest winter in 10 years is more premature BS considering the fact only half the SH winter is gone, meanwhile here in the good ole us of a. CHICAGO IL july 2012 mean is 83.1,(warmest july is 81.3 in 1955) MINNEAPOLIS july 2012 mean is 81.8,(warmest july is 81.4 in 1936)and I could go on and on and on. Its also been unusually warm from jan through july,the agw people are saying this is what climate change looks like. I hope that august through dec are below normal temperatures because the MSM has been pounding on this heatwave as proof of agw,but at the same time if we turn drastically colder during the fall and winter that does not mean an ice age.
