Met Office – No warming in the past 15 years
We could even be headed for a Dalton or Maunder-type minimum, the coldest part of the Little Ice Age.
“The supposed ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is facing an inconvenient challenge after the release of new temperature data showing the planet has not warmed for the past 15 years,” says this article in the Daily Mail.
“The figures suggest that we could even be heading for a mini ice age to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the Thames in the 17th Century.”
“Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data was issued last week without fanfare by the Met Office and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit (of Climategate fame). It confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.”
Read that again. “Based on readings from more than 30,000 measuring stations, the data … confirms that the rising trend in world temperatures ended in 1997.”
Not only has the warming trend ended, it looks like we could now be headed in the other direction.
According to leading climate scientists, “after emitting unusually high levels of energy throughout the 20th Century, the sun is now heading towards a ‘grand minimum’… threatening cold summers, bitter winters and a shortening of the season available for growing food.”
“There is a 92 per cent chance that both Cycle 25 and those taking place in the following decades will be as weak as, or weaker than, the ‘Dalton minimum’ of 1790 to 1830,” said a paper issued last week by the Met Office. “In this period, named after the meteorologist John Dalton, average temperatures in parts of Europe fell by 2C.”
“However, it is also possible that the new solar energy slump could be as deep as the ‘Maunder minimum’… in the coldest part of the ‘Little Ice Age’ when, as well as the Thames frost fairs, the canals of Holland froze solid.”
“Meanwhile, since the end of last year, world temperatures have fallen by more than half a degree, as the cold ‘La Nina’ effect has re-emerged in the South Pacific.”

Here’s a link to a University of Reading press release concerning this (the Maunder Minimum part):

I originally posted an article about this on January 30, 2012. With the current heat wave in parts of the United States, and the mainstream media screaming ‘global warming,’ I thought it worthwhile to bring it up again.

looks like this is the last hot summer here in Europe
This weekend the UK grand prix (F1) Silverstone. Remember it is summer in the UK.

It´s a pity that there is no link to the original paper by Met Office. Without it, this article is of no use to spread the news.
You are absolutely correct. Here’s a link to a University of Reading press release (concerning the Maunder Minimum part) http://www.reading.ac.uk/news-and-events/releases/PR428852.aspx , which includes a link to the Journal of Geophysical Research paper http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/pip/2011JD017013.shtml I will also add these links to the post.
‘Summer Olympics’. Can’t think of a better venue to dispel the agw myth to the world.
Or even worse the climate may be “flickering” as we near the end of the interglacial.
AGW alarmists like to depict such “flickering” as a warning wave of “run away warming” however this is not that sort of unstable system, the feedbacks and damping will not support “run away.” It’s a two state system and we all know which state we’re in now. The other state sucks.
I remembered summers in the UK had lovely heat waves started in July and August when a child the last on in 2003 see after no proper heatwaves any heat your lucky if u get 2 days summers are now lot cooler now well this helps towards are new iceage one more thing north Atlantic sea temps still way below normal that right gulf stream current still has not returned to the UK and still seeing fresh ice flows still spilling down eastern Greenland this is showing up on the sst maps for the north Atlantic its only time nw UK waters well be lock in ice and burgs from Greenland
This seemingly 7 – 119 year trend is turning out to be an inconvenient change to an inconvenient truth
Ooookkkaayy it’s now 2012 where they been??

“Decline in solar output unlikely to offset global warming
Release Date : 23 January 2012
New research has found that solar output is likely to reduce over the next 90 years but that will not substantially delay expected increases in global temperatures caused by greenhouse gases.
Carried out by the University of Reading and the Met Office, the study establishes the most likely changes in the Sun’s activity and looks at how this could affect near-surface temperatures on Earth.
It found that the most likely outcome was that the Sun’s output would decrease up to 2100, but this would only cause a reduction in global temperatures of 0.08 °C. This compares to an expected warming of about 2.5 °C over the same period due to greenhouse gases (according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s B2 scenario for greenhouse gas emissions that does not involve efforts to mitigate emissions).”
This article posted today was interesting in regard to cooling climate:

Having a real problem with my garden not cooking >.<
So fdar only had my potatoes show, by beans got eaten by damn slugs and nothing else is showing yet
I didn’t follow any links off the University of Reading news post, but I was totally blown away by the content of that post. The likely decrease in world temperature due to a Dalton type minimum would be .08 degrees, to a Maunder Minimum, about .13 degrees, thus would hardly even slow down the greenhouse gases projected 2.5 degree increase. Man, I don’t know what those people are smoking. but I sure wish they would share it! Nothing, and certainly not data, will prevent the alarmist from their stated rounds, or move them off their Agenda 21 grounds.
i am shocked that the met office have admitted this, they are still refusing to use the word ‘cold’ in their forecasts and are sticking with the newspeak version ‘temperatures will be disappointing’
