Impoverished  residents switch off heat over cash fears. Meanwhile, Obama is doing his best to drive energy prices skyward.

“An average of almost 200 people in Stoke-on-Trent (UK) die each year as a result of cold weather,” says this article in thisisstaffordshire.co.uk.

Local authorities want to reduce that number by cutting “fuel poverty,” which they hope will “stop vulnerable people switching off heating over cash fears.”

Meanwhile in the United States, President Obama is doing his best to drive energy prices skyward. Exactly how is that supposed to help the poor and needy?

Obama: “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.”

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” (See video http://iceagenow.info/2011/11/obama-plan-electricity-rates-skyrocket-video/ )

raise energy rates then provide subsidies. thats great way to grow government and reinforce dependency on central authority. agenda 21.

Gotta’ love socialism. How is it that something as simple and liberating as the free market is so poorly understood?

  3. John McC says:

In the UK there are winter fuel allowances available for older citizens. £200 is paid to those who are 60+ and £300 to those who are 80+. Only one allowance is paid per household. It has been a life saver for those on low incomes during the cold winters of 2009-10 and 2010-11.

Just saw a great program on Ann Rand and Atlas Shrugged last night on tv -people are beginning to actually understand what she was saying.

  5. Marcus says:

I guess the cost of used books increased.
They are worried about “Global Warming” and CO2?
Looks like they need a good dose.

  6. Eric says:

We emigrated to escape European energy prices and taxes. Despite making good money in merchant banking, we found energy bills difficult to pay – during winter bills approached $800 / month, to heat a well insulated 2br bungalow, with electricity and coal.

America is insane for supporting similar measures – even if your poor forgive you one day for the hardship and pain, China will eat you for breakfast.
