The Canadian Coast Guard has helped an Arctic expedition called “Students on Ice”
get on its way after the students ended up with a lot more ice than anticipated.
Over 100 students, teachers and guides had planned to board their educational ship in Iqaluit on August 1, but couldn’t because the harbour was choked with ice from Frobisher Bay.
After days of waiting, the Coast Guard ship Des Groseilliers agreed to help.
Students On Ice operations manager Reina Lahtinen says a Coast Guard barge was able to navigate between the ice and bring the students to the Des Groseilliers late Friday.
Lahtinen says the amount of ice in Iqaluit is unusual for this time of year, and is due to unusual winds and currents.
Whatever happened to that ice-free Arctic by 2012? You don’t suppose we were being conned, do you?

No! Global warming causes global cooling. Everything bad is the fault of us nasty ol’ humans. (Hmm? I wonder how many warmists will be willing to take themselves out of the equation–if you know what I mean–to help save the globe?)
Although I do not watch much television any more I have not heard much from Al Gore or David Suzuki lately. They do seem to be keeping a low profile lately.
This report and others like it are the evidence that this coming winter 2012/2013 is already coming in hard and fast and is going to be deadly. If this trend continues will we see several arctic communities relocating southwards ? Either that or they will face a certain death due to starvation and hypothermia as summertime supply ships even using ice breakers are not going to be able to reach them anymore ? During ice ages one must realise that the whole of Europe and North America as well as Siberia right down into China will be a death trap. Indeed in my opinion eventually it will get to be even worse than that.
