“Britain’s ‘obsession’ with wind farms will push up family electricity bills by more than $436 (£300) a year, a report claimed today.

“In a stark warning Professor Gordon Hughes said that British consumers simply cannot afford to subsidise wind power.

“Electricity prices for average home will go up 58% by 2020 because of turbines.”

juLIAR Gillard the UNeleceted wanna be PM of aus, informs us our rising power bills are NOT due to the Carbon Tax..
    she says..(lips moving=lying)
that the rise is just a tiny .7 of apercent
however the Power companies say the carbon tax associated coss etc is anywhere from 50 to 100% of the rises lately.
power cos lie like pigs in poop…so does our present govt.

result ripped off aussies. rather angry, and going to be more so!

This will increase further the number of winter excess deaths in the UK. The green economy is a cruel way to mass murder the older citizens, who cannot pay their electricity bills any more. They have to choose between eating and heating. See also the article about Stoke-on-Trent, a small town in the UK that has 240.000 inhabitants. Each year there are 200 winter excess deaths in this town alone. As the earth is cooling down and at the same time heating costs are rising, the number of winter excess deaths will increase a lot further, thanks to the warmists. That is the reality of the new green eco-fascism. The next step is to kill all cimate sceptics, who oppose their pseudo science. We have seen it all before, in the time when the fascists were brown. Now they are green, but there is not much difference.

This is just insanity! Last year my neighbor installed a solar water heater, solar panels for the generation of electricity, battery pack to store any excess electricity and a small wind turbine. All at a cost, after govt subsidies, of $32,000(US). The batteries will have to be replaced in 5 years the solar arrays in 10, he doesn’t know how long the turbine will last but it has a 10 year limited warranty on it. He had to get a permit from the city to install the turbine, even though its only a bit bigger than an anemometer. That cost $1000.
At first I was curious about it. Did it save him any money? Was it reliable? How hot did the water get?
Well he got tired of my pestering and now won’t talk about it. I think he was sold a pig in a poke. Truthfully we all got sold a pig in a poke.

I got solar hot water and it is a good thing but I live in the sub-tropics – without a tempering valve the water can reach over 80 degrees C – hot enough to be dangerous.

I also got solar panels as I believed the hype. I’m not sorry I did as they will add resale value to our home but there is no way they make economic sense even at a feed-in tariff double the cost of electricity.

With the subsidies reducing the costs of both I will still not live long enough to actually pay for my contribution so a poor investment.

But I can point to them when some smug warmist starts preaching and say that even though I don’t believe their nonsense at least I have made a contribution.

I’ll get the money back when I need to sell to move into retirement as some gullible warmist believer will pay more for the house because of them.

  5. Rosco says:

She is actually right about the electricity grid infrastructure costs being the prime cause of price increases in Australia – that is beyond dispute – even the major energy authorities acknowledge this.

The main deception in Australia at the moment is why this is happening.

Anyone who has even a slight appreciation of engineering will tell you that a grid that has to cope with fluctuations and surges has to be more robust. “Renewables” are not consistently supplying power and there can be large surges such as when the sun comes up or the wind speed increases.

To avoid black or brown outs the grid needs upgrading which is expensive.

The other thing is that Wind farms are in remote locations where there is little or no existing infrastructure – more expense.

So Gillard is right – the grid expenses are the main costs.

What she or any other Gov’t member is not saying is it is there policy causing the need for this expenditure.

The “clean energy future” policy is the cause of these price increases at present – these costs will increase into the future and the failure to make this clear is deception.

The carbon tax is a small impost at the moment but again deception is at play as the design of the policy is to force price increases in a never ending upward spiral so that “renewables” become affordable – at a much higher price, naturally !

So our government is lying to us – through ignorance, by omission or straight out deception – I don’t know – I suspect ignorance of reality over the grid infrastructure but it could be straight out lying.

Doesn’t matter to me – I’ll never vote for them again while these people are in parliament.

All those poxy solar installations on suburban houses are another cause for concern. They often use cheap PRC sourced filtering and D.C.- A.C. inverters i.e. dirty unbalanced power being fed back into the grid. Power utility engineers have gone to great length to get the suburban power grid load balances and filtering to optimum levels. Here are governments using taxpayer subsidy to pay these solar installation carpetbaggers to inject dirty power into the grid. – A nightmare for the power engineers.

The consumers are mushrooms – fed B.S. about the benefits of these systems. A bunch of electrical consumer subscribers are griping that their electrical power bills are going through the roof not acknowledging the fact that they are paying for their fellow carpetbaggers poxy power.

  6. Neil Love says:

In my opinion getting electricity from a wind turbine only works on a small scale. Just a single mini turbine on the roof of your house is all that the government need have sponsored. These huge turbines on “wind farms” is just obviously rediculous and quite clearly producing nothing of value to anyone. In my opinion the whole thing is a scam and a scandle. The problem is that such wind and solar systems operate best in an unmetered environment house by house individually. The problems arise because of the capitalism wanting to own the wind and own the solar, as share holders, and then to sell units of electricity, thus the metering. In order for these wind and solar systems to function we need to get rid of the old capitalist paradigm. We need to think of how much we can liberate one another by installing solar and wind on the roof of each house without any metering. Without any kind of taxation. Sunlight belongs free of charge to whom so ever can catch it. The wind belongs free of chargely to whom so ever can catch it. Putting metering on a wind turbine is as stupid as putting a wind meter on a sailing ship. Capitalism is the problem, not the wind or solar. The politicians are going deeper and deeper into making the world subordinate to the capitalist paradigm and thus are creating all the problems. Capitalism will be the cause of its own down fall. Wind and solar were originally intended to be a source of free of charge energy. Indeed only fuction if set up to provide electricity free of chargely. Each householder should set up their own private DC electric curcuit to run DC appliances, all available from the same MARITIME CHANDLERY as from which to get the solar panels and mini wind turbines and of course the all important deep cycle storage batteries and blocking diode.

  7. It’s all about Energy Returned On Energy Invested.

Based on my Embodied Energy calculations the EROEI for wind, depending on grid upgrading and other variables, is 0.29. As anyone who knows EROEI’s, anything less than 1 is unsustainable.

The other giveaway is subsidies. If it has to be heavily subsidized, to be sure, it can never return more than was invested in it.

    Wind power is a fraud.

  8. Marcus says:

No wind — No Sun = No Power!
Didn’t they learn anything when the wind mills froze and solar panels were coated with snow?
In the USA, their answer to the “renewable Energy” is to build back-up power plants and “Smart Grids”. Obviously, why build 2 power plants when only one is needed. We are wasting time, energy, property, and valuable resources on unreliable, overpriced solar and wind power. Furthermore, we are increasing the National Debt by subsidizing this type of unreliable energy; monies that are not calculated into the energy costs.
They claim to reduce imported oil but, it will do little or nothing. To make any effect on imported oil our vehicles would need to be all electric and the power source solar and wind. I once calculated that we would need to plaster ¼ to 1/3 the state of California with solar panels to power the states 30 million vehicles. If you think we have a food crisis now just wait until solar and wind chews up all our valuable farm land!
This country, any country, needs low cost power if we are to meet the needs of our people, and build upon our future. I have suggested in the past to utilize a new technology called “Laser Fusion”; the power of the future. It produces little to zero radiation and can be shut down quickly in case of earthquakes or other natural disasters. The small footprint power plant can be located near cities and can supply equivalent power of the typical coal or nuclear plant. Laser Fusion combined with existing power plants can power electric vehicles thereby reducing imported oil as well as pollution. (CO2 is not a pollutant)
Of course, our power grid will need to be upgraded to handle more power, but not to send power several states away because of unreliable solar or wind.
Meanwhile, we should be taxing solar and wind power to “Get our money back” for the expensive subsidies as well as for Solyndra and many others.
