Figures just been released by the South African Weather Office.

23 Stations had record cold, and 6 had record rain!

“Most of the old records were not only beaten, but shattered!” says reader Jon Wells in South Africa.

We have had a cold and long winter in Brisbane Australia and last summer was cool and wet. Global warming Hey ! yeah right !

  2. Rosco says:

I am totally convinced we have seen nothing more than a cycle in weather. When I was a kid in the 60′s in The Gap in Brisbane winters were quite cold and dry from May to at least mid August. Summers were hot in November and December becoming hot and humid with regular rain from January to about Easter.

That changed during the late 70′s early 80′s. We had prolonged dry spells throughout the 90′ and 2000′s.

That period seemed to end late 2009 – after an amazingly warm August where temperatures reached 31 C mid month – wierd for late winter.

Since 2009 the impressions of the weather I remember as a child/teenager are growing stronger.

2010 really broke the drought, 2011 saw large flooding (almost 1974 like) and 2012 was surprisingly the wettest Jan-June period since 1974 – even wetter than the 2011 flood year.

This winter is the longest we’ve had for so long I can’t remember with below averages most of the time.

All we need are the strong south westerly winds that used to blow for a few weeks in August marking the start of Spring and the cycle will be complete – some are predicted for this week.

All I see is a cycle.

Finally the hottest day I can personally remember was in November 1968 – I was sitting a tech drawing exam in an unairconditioned schoolroom – which still holds the record as far as I can tell. November 1980 approached this followed a day in by January this year. The maximum was around 40 +C – Brisbane is “fortunate” – it rarely exceeds 40 – rarely approaches it actually – because of the humidity.

Funny how high humidity prevents extreme temperatures – wonder where that backradiation goes ?

    • C. Peter Davis says:

High humidity only adds to the heat here in Canada where a 35C day will feel like 45C when the humitity is above 50%. It has to be the same everywhere. You are aware that we are overdue for the next Ice Age right? Your are aware of the Magnetic Pole Reversal and it’s causitive effect of Ice Ages and massive global extinction events right? Some cycle!

Yes indeed! this seems to be also indicating a excursion and or reversal with it which would explain all of this weird weather worldwide we have had recently over the past few years. I would also add here over the past 9 months it seems to be moving and changing faster, and faster, very fast and sudden changing and very unpredictable weather forcast recently,, on a more humorous note: this stymies all weather forcasting accurate. and computer models for prediction are becoming unreliable recently.:-) You cannot predict weather nor control the sun, planets,ex. if the sun/cosmic weather! One word..GOD! :-)

when a best friend in Qld rang to ask what wood was the best value? I had to ask are you making bookshelves? or repairing something?
no, she replied, I have just installed the biggest slowcombustion I could find and I want to know what wood to buy to burn!
we are freezing our butts off up here!.
and this isnt highland or hinterlands its Caboolture.:-)
then another mate in Sth West qld also wrote saying how damn cold he was, and doing the same regarding home heating:-)
they reckon the greentree frogs are semi stunned and slow moving on the colder days, and they have to keep rescuing them from the dogs and cats, who usually dont get a look in to catch them:-)
pity the cold doesnt knock some of the Hendra infested Flying foxes off! that would be a lot of lives, human and animal at reduced risk.
the silver lining as it were:-)

Well…..Johannesburg has seen snow and that’s is very abnormal!!
Extremely cold and must say we have not had this cold for quite some years! Obviously there were winters this cold in the past such as in the Anglo-Boer war in 1903 but that was if we look at the sunspot trend, we caught our winter right at the minimum of the cycle. The problem is now that the cycle 24 is turning and going down and it will be a domino effect. The next winter will be even colder an so on…
The magnitude of our rain has also increased and a very wet winter in the southern parts like Cape Town with heavy storms and stormy seas. The central Karoo areas very, very cold!!!!

  5. Decompressor says:

Is the Carbon tax a cycle too ???

  6. Paul says:

Well, I would not trust the figures. If you look at the tabel and you note the dates for the previous records and then look at the number of years thereafter you will find some major discrepencies. I do not trust the competence of our weather service with regards to supplying even the most basic data. However, it is certainly rather cool down here and the amount of snow is unussual. Though I must mention that the amount of snow on the Western Cape mountains are not impressive. I’ve seen snow in the past on the mountains from almost above Gordon’s Bay right around Somerset West. The last two years have not seen much in my area. I hope this winter will be different and I believe it’s far from over.

So much for all the global warming Krap !!!

  8. bill burke says:

regrettably, the dang gulfstream looks code blue.
