Yes, it really was that cold!
Temperatures across the state plummet below 0C overnight.
Adelaide records its coldest August morning in 13 years.
The state’s capital reached just 2.2C at 6.23am. The record low was 1.6C in 1994.
Yunta and Roxby Downs recorded minimum temperatures of -4C, while Renmark could only manage -3C.

Thanks to Laurel for this link
“I dont have an outside thermometer but I can say that Vic was Damn Cold
this am too,” says Laurel. “I was out at 7.30 am to take racehorses to the track. Funny thing, buckets of water didn’t have ice, containers 3ft off ground did have. Nothing spectacular really, 3or 4mm. Back in Sth Aus I used to have to drop a rock or hammer to break the duck’s waterbowl ice. and that was the lower mid north.”

Are You Prepared?

I recommend this DVD

Surprised that it does not get much colder there as normal winter temps, I can say 0C is not all that cold and where I live and in winter it can get down to Minus -20C for an over night low, the coldest I’ve seen here was Minus -28C.
yeah, I dont know how europe and some usa places cope with the waaaay below zeros you get.
with no heating but with roof insulation my lounge will be as cold as 8c when its 0 outside.
with massive rises already in power costs Plus the Liars carbon tax.
if you dont have town gas supplies and a lot of rural places dont. then its wood or freeze. bottled gas is pricey and rising too thanks to the fool in power just now as well.
Robert, my mum phoned me from England this morning, saying that she heard that FROSTS were being predicted for Scotland this week into next. “WOW!” was my response.. I had a search online and found this: “the GFS 06 continues to paint a cool, generally unsettled picture into mid month. Looks like possible air frost in sheltered parts of Scotland IF this chart verified!!” and “I think we are on the slippery slope to Autumn especially as the nights are drawing out we are 6 weeks past MidSummer.
The longer the upper trough persist, the colder nights will become. Some of our Acers are already showing Autumn colours. This is the weird
thing about this kind of set up. Whilst the UK slips towards early autumn conditions, Central and Eastern Europes summer heatwave goes on
and on with no sign of any abatement. As we head towards mid month, temps dropping back to Mid Teens more typical of October.”

Carol: I live in Highland Perthshire in Scotland and likewise some of the Maples in my backlot are already colouring up. The Red Oak seedlings have put on no apical growth this year, whereas the birches and willows from northern origins have done very well. People are making comments about how autumnal it feels.
Yes, the BBC reported that Central Scotland at the end of July had minimum temperatures of only 1C – cold enough for a grass frost.
Here in N. Ireland July had average rainfall but temps were about 1C below normal and with sunshine only 75% of normal. Below average sunshine has been a feature of our recent cool summers.
In australia we dont have houses with poor insultation and no central heating for very cold weather, so when its cold ehre we feel it.
I have met many europeans and even Canadians who have there coldest witner in australia as when at home you are all warm and cosy in the centrally heated house.
We wear jumpers / pullovers inside in winter where you take all your coats off.
So in many ways in some parts fo australian we put up with more cold inside on average than people from europe and many parts of north america.
I must agree with Tom M. I have many comments from people in the northern hemisphere say they feel so cold in Australia while indoors even though our winters are mild in comparison. I think it is due to the lack of good insulation in older homes and lack of central heating. This is one of coldest winters for a while. Normally I go through 1 Ton of wood per winter. I have already gone through 2 tonnes so far this year.
As the world is cooling down there will be areas of high air pressure, as cold air is heavy and is descending, which will result in clear blue sky conditions and droughts too. Such clear sky will allow the sunlight to hit the ground thus giving rise to the heat waves in the eastern USA and in Russia and Australia … However, the extreme heat is at most limited to the ground surface. As soon as the sun sets the heat will quickly radiate away resulting in over night frosts. Hot air cools down much faster than does cool air. This can be shown by taking two cup of water. In cup A we put boiling hot water and in cup B we put cold water. If we put these two cup of water into the freezer, which one will be first to freeze ? Amazingly it is the cup A containing the boiling water that will be frozen first. Indeed cup B will not freeze at all. Use boiling water when making ice cubes. So with this in mind we should not be taken off our guard just because of some high daytime temperatures being reported. This coming winter 2012-2013 is going to be bitter. Persistent and penetrating cold that will be lethal to those who are unfortunately homeless.
