UK preparing for snow, ice, flooding and bitter gales next week.

Forecasters warned last night that the mercury will plummet to near freezing in many areas with daytime temperatures 15C lower than this time last year.

The wintry forecast comes as the country recovers from a week of torrential downpours (more than two month’s worth of rain) which have sparked devastating floods.

“We could well see some bitter cold temperatures from Sunday,” said Jonathan Powell, forecaster for Vantage Weather Services.

Hold on Old Blighty, here it comes.

  4. Matt says:

Er….dont think so.No chart or model is suggesting anything of the sort.Maybe a dusting of snow for the highest Scottish mountains but elsewhere nothing but average, if not above, temperatures. This is just tabloid journalism at its worst written by people who just want to make a fast buck.Lets get some realism on this website-be a shane to ruin it with sensationalism.

  5. John McC says:

The Daily Express is often way OTT when reporting possible future weather events. The BBC weekly forecast did mention that it would be cooler than normal with spells of wind and rain. There was no mention of snow although it’s quite likely that the higher parts of Scotland will get a little of the white stuff – not an unusual event in early October.

  6. Postman1 says:

They should be very grateful for global warming. Just imagine how cold it would be otherwise.

Here are news of other unusual weather related events in other part of the world. A week ago SENAMHI, Peruvian Government meteorological agency, declared another alert this year for a forecasted week long cooling period in the Amazon Region with temperatures dropping down well below the usual values.
On Wednesday unusually strong winds occurred in southern Andes. Reports from Cusco say about wind gusts not seen in residents living memory resulting in many blown away flimsy roofs made of metal sheets. The event, although not unusual in other parts of the world , caught everyone there by surprise.

Hi Roman, If you have links to these articles, please feel free to post them here. We have to do what the mainstream media doesn’t seem willing to do.

The N. Eastern US & Europe could possibly be in trouble. As for the drought, I took some pictures in August 2011 of the rain being shut off. I’d show them on this website, if I knew anything about getting them on here. I’m 74 & computer illiterate. If Robert reads these very intelligent missiles, maybe he can tell me where to send them. and they are not?? mentioning the force of the class of cme which is unusual??
rough weather always souped up by such

  10. Rhys Jaggar says:

If the white stuff falls below 600m, OK. If its 2000ft+, that occurs October > 3 times per decade.

    • John McC says:

The Ptarmigan webcam, situated at around 3600 feet on Cairngorm Mountain in Scotland, is showing snow on the ground today, 3rd October.

  11. Anthony says:

Best to take articles by the Daily Express with a rather large pinch of salt. To say that they sensationalise storeys would be charitable to say the least.

    • Neil says:

I agree. Whatever they say the opposite happens. Snow in October, yes, maybe over the highest peaks in Scotland. – this is not unusual.

  12. Paul Metcalf says:

I think this is very premature. No snow for uk till end of November at earliest however they could be some on high ground in the North any time now.
