“Those poor Canadian children will never get to experience the joys of snowfall (unless you pay carbon taxes to the UN),” says reader Josh.

But it’s wet snow, and melting, so proof of warming. My high of 86 today in Abq is also warming, since it is warmer than the coldest day, which the experts say is normal. Ha ha!
And at 10:45 pm Tuesday 11th in Christchurch, New Zealand snow has settled lightly on the lawn.
These poor Canadians will never get to experience the joys of summer again…
No doubt about it winter is on the way. At 3 AM in Barrie Ontario this morning there was ice on the roof again. It doesn’t last once the sun is up but the cooling trend has started.
Global warming climate model #73, run #6,412 predicted a longer snow season, of course.
Here are the temperature trends for western Canada and territories over the past 15 years, using data from Environment Canada:
British Columbia: -0.46 C/decade
Alberta: -0.37 C/decade
Saskatchewan: -0.41 C/decade
Manitoba: -0.23 C/decade
NWT: -0.28 C/decade
Yukon: -0.41 C/decade
This is also consistent with global warming models (ho ho!).

Predicting the future, whether by crystal ball, tarot cards or computer modelling, can be extremely hazardous to your credibility.
Yes we are at the start of a Ice Age. Snow in Alberta Canada in September. While they are getting snow in Christchurch New Zealand . It is different seasons. Passes closed closed it the Swiss Alps because of snow and it’s only September. Here is SoCal some really weird weather this past August and July. The high desert thunder showers almost every day. The talking head on local TV don’t about it unless there is about unless there some type of flooding. The talking heads say it the monsoon season. Only problem monsoon weather doesn’t happen in SoCal. So it looks like a start of a Ice Age.
Bill I live in socal. I agree with weather. I started to research climate when insect and plant life changed about 4 years ago. Thats when I noticed something was up. New Ice age maybe. Nice to see some on the globe pay attention!
Not sure snow in the high rockies is anything unusual up near Banff; in August 1973 I vividly remember driving from Lake Louise to Revelstoke in a snowstorm; the highway road was also a lot lower, as well, than the ski runs up at Sunshine Village where I spent a lot of time the following winter; Banff’s a great place to ski in any case; take your pick as between Sunshine Village, Lake Louise or Mt. Norquay. Thanks for the webcam links; something to link back to and follow.
And it was because of that cold weather in the 70′s that scientists were predicting a New Ice Age. They were right but it was in it’s infancy. As with all Ice ages there are a few brief warming periods beafore the cold settles in for good.
Recent snow in Revelstoke, B.C., too: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/2012/09/11/snow-falls-in-b-c-so-ski-season-cant-be-far-behind/
Don’t know how I missed this one: three-meters of new snow in the past few days and a six-meter base on the Tasman Glacier at Mt. Cook, New Zealand – http://www.snowreports.co.nz/new-zealand/ski-the-tasman/
Those pictures are not of the first snowfall at Sunshine this fall. They had snow on the first weekend of the month, but that is common. I think it would be news if it didn’t have snow by now.
Last year they had a record amount of snow; over 1000 cm. That is all natural snow. Here is a picture taken on June 1st:

The other night I came across a theory that attempted to explain the ice age cycles as being the result of the mineral depletion of the upper layers of the soil which leads to impaired plant growth and impaired CO2 consumption. The CO2 build up leads to temperature extremes between the equator and the poles and greater cloud cover and precipitation allowing reglaciation and as a result the creation of mineral rich rock dust that gets blown around by strong polar winds and the result is the fertilization of the soils and stronger growth of trees which absorb more CO2 and moderates the climate and shuts down the ice age for the duration of the new interglacial untill mineral depletion shuts down vigorous plant growth and CO2 builds up again. The solution proposed is for humans to make rock dust and spread it around to encourage plant growth and break the ice age cycle.
It is a relatively old theory but there might be some thing to learn.
