A large explosive eruption occurred at Bezyianni volcano in Kamchatka last night, according to VolcanoDiscovery.com.

The explosion produced an ash cloud rising to about 34,000 feet (10 km), prompting an ash-cloud aviation warning. Major intercontinental routes pass this area.

The ash plume is rapidly drifting west and has already reached hundreds of kilometers in length. As of today (2 Sep), the eruption of the volcano is gradually finishing, but ash plumes are extending more 370 mi (600 km) to the east-north-east of the volcano.

According to Wikipedia, prior to its noted 1955-56 eruption, Bezymianny volcano had been considered extinct.

Bezymianny  has erupted more than 35 times since that 1955-56 eruption,, according to volcano expert John Search.

Other than the dinosaurs how can man proclaim anything extinct. Especially on a live planet?

    • Beano says:

Volcanoes are “considered” extinct if they haven’t erupted during the last 10.000 years or in the Holocene.
Estimated judgements (EWAG) of where the locations of “Hot Spots” are comes into consideration.
      Chaiten 2008 was considered extinct.

    • AndrewS says:

? Other than dinosaurs?? Here are ten
recently extincted animals – largely due to man, whether over hunting or some other careless acts.

My comparison did not fit land changes, so I agree with you in that respect!

always makes me laugh when greenbits and wwf etc claim hundreds of species a year are being wiped out.
they have NO proof, and never offer anything to back it up.
quite a few supposedly extinct species are being re discovered as well.
(see WUWT willis esenbachs..show me the corpses post)
with millenia of species that died already by natural variances to look at, why????
does anyone seriously think that every species here now is going to stay here forever anyway?
and that includes the human species.
so a rare bug frog goat whatever gets wiped out on the side of Kamchatka today..and?
comes under the “shit happens” tab :-)

        PETA people eating tasty animals

  2. frank says:

Here are birds and animals man has saved from extinction recently: multiple duck species through careful management of private and public lands by the dreded duck hunters purchasing very expensive duck stamps to hunt, multiple goose species, more numerous to mention deer and moose, bufflow,
a gazilion fish in fish water and salt water, the puffer fish, etc. I could go on all night, but you get the picture. We are not all that bad…

  3. John the 1st says:

Like the great bard George Carlin said “90% of evey animal that ever lived on this planet are gone. Weee didn’t kill them all. Let them go gracefully”.
    A genius that is missed.
If you haven’t seen this you are missing out on a huge belly laugh.
