Surely, above 11,000 feet in Colorado, it can snow at any time of the year?
Absolutely. However, I thought snow was supposed to have become a thing of the past, and the ski industry was supposed to have died back in 2004. How could this be?
Exactly. We were told that snow would be a rare event by 2012 and ski areas would be shutting down everywhere by now.
Interesting…as the other comment noted, above 11K feet, it could snow in an accumulating amount, probably anytime Sept-June. Even 5000′ Denver has had an inch in early June and much more by mid Sept, but that is rare down low. Seeing Aspen in there seems low for right now, though probably has happened a few times.
It is another day that snow is falling were it usually doesn’t this time of year. IS ANYONE NOTICING all the records that e have broken this year? All over the planet records have been broken high and low, two much rain, to little rain, two much snow, to little snow. I read that when an iceage starts the fronts do not move like they normally do and areas in the world get stuck with extremes. This is all due to low sunpot activity that perks up our atmosphere or doesn.t. It sure looks like the beginning of something new! Hopefuly we will live through it. thank you robert
Might be right Frank! It’s hotter than the gates of hell in socal. Last 3 years maybe one week of hot weather. This year it wont go away. and humid too. 105f on this coming monday:-(
It’s not rare to have snow at this time in Colorado. Nothing to get excited about. Just hoping we get a lot of this year here in Colorado.
No, it’s not unusual. But I thought snowfall was supposed to be a thing of the past.
“According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.
“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” said Viner. ( See http://iceagenow.info/2011/10/snowfalls/ )
I remember that post on your old site. I was driving threw FairPlay Colorado yesterday sits around 9500 feet, the snow was down about 3/4 way down the mountains to the west of town. Great site to see..
