“Now there’s more ice at South Pole than ever,” headlines the Daily Mail. “(So much for global warming thawing Antarctica!)”

Yes, that last part about global warming is also part of the headline.

“Ice around the South Pole has expanded to cover a record area, scientists revealed yesterday – a month after saying that the North Pole had lost an unprecedented amount of its ice.”

September 26, 2012, when ice covered more of the Southern Ocean than at any other time in the satellite record.

At the end of the southern winter in September, ice covered 7.51 million square miles (19.44 million sq km) of sea – more than at any time since records began in 1979.

“Researchers say – rather confusingly – that both  occurrences are down to the ‘complex and surprising’ effects of global warming”

If you believe that, then you’ll be happy to learn that gasoline prices in the United States have gone down since Obama took office. Down from $2.00 per gallon to $4.00 per gallon.

Thanks to Nicola Jowsey and William Sellers for this link

“What if this is exactly what’s in store for the Arctic?” asks William. “And due to the land mass there & lack of surrounding land masses, and the unique pattern of currents in the N. Hemisphere….simply delaying the same effect?”

Liberal Logic 101: Take what they say, turn it upside down, and you may just have the truth of the whole matter. Fiddlin

  2. Perdavid says:

I wonder what it takes to stop the lie called “antropogenic global warming”. A new ice age will probably not be enough, they will blame the ice age on carbon-emissions.

    • Steven Rowlandson says:

Perdavid not long ago I watched a video that explained a theory that was thought up back in the 1970s to explain the ice age cycle and basically it has to do with CO2 usage by plants being made inefficient due to mineral depletion of the soils. The result being a build up of CO2 leading to temperature extremes at the equator that pulls cold air in from the poles and kick starts an ice age that becomes self perpetuating due to changes in the albedo. The process of glaciation for a hundred thousand years creates enough rock dust to fertilize the soils and thus CO2 usage by plants becomes more efficient, the climate moderates and the ice age comes to an end. This theory has nothing to do with human activity and also assumes that Milankovich cycles have little or nothing to do with the ice age cycle. It is just a theory.

  3. Steven Rowlandson says:

I don’t know about Antarctica but right now in Barrie, Ontario we are getting ice pellets and that isn’t too far from being snow. So far no accumulation Time of report 2:30 PM ET.

  4. John the 1st says:

Not sure of course but Orwell is probably sitting somewhere grinning from ear to ear.

  5. t.alex_10@yahoo.com says:

wait … shouldn’t global warming be like global, like in every corner of the Earth?

  6. Harold says:

“Researchers say – rather confusingly – that both occurrences are down to the ‘complex and surprising’ effects of global warming”

And I’ve got some ocean front property in Phoenix I’ll sell you really cheap!

  7. Josh says:

Meanwhile, back in the northern hemisphere, two east coast ski areas are opening: http://www.firsttracksonline.com/

“Woodbury Ski Area has always been one of the first ski areas to open for the season, and this year we will be opening earlier than ever, with our tentative opening for this Saturday”

Earlier than ever. But I thought man-made global warming was supposed to ruin the ski industry?

In Colorado, A-Basin and Loveland ski areas will likely open within a week, as well….

  8. Rosco says:

A warming Arctic and a cooling Antarctic are not a contradiction to the CAGW crowd.

Their science is magical and these sorts of contradictions are easily understood once you totally suspend credibility.

Let us not forget that the very basis of their theory is:-

    1. The Sun provides a constant amount of energy.

    2. GHGs trap radiation thus warming the planet and increasing concentrations trap more.

    3. The only way this can happen is if the Earth radiates less to space. So we have :-

    Sun = in = constant.

Heating by radiation trapping = less to space.

So we have the paradox of the Earth warming by radiating LESS to space.

BUT real science says that as things warm up they radiate MORE – not less.

But never mind – this is where the magic comes in !

    • Mike says:

Are you really that scientifically illiterate? “When things warm up they radiate more heat”? I don’t think so. When objects create more heat, they radiate more heat. When they trap heat they radiate less heat. The whole idea behind putting insulation in a house is to trap heat inside, not make it go out faster.

The sun is not constant, we all know that. We also know that the sun has been putting out less heat for the last 12 or so years by precise observations. How exactly has the earths average temperature risen to so many record breaking records in the last 10 years if the sun is putting out less energy?

  9. Andyj says:

Early August saw a huge storm over the Arctic which broke up the ice. Before that it was just a normal year.
It’s odd, when you corner a carbonazi he will cry “Milankovitch cycles!” right before your very eyes. Now when we see a massive disparity on the poles, its global warming!

    Every idiot knows that…..

  10. Theo says:

Now lets see the Arctic this winter….its going to be a record as well!!

  11. Woody says:

‘Global Warming stopped 16 years ago’
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2217286/Global-warming-stopped-16-years-ago-reveals-Met-Office-report-quietly-released–chart-prove-it.html

Oh dear! I think someone should tell the IPCC that their crystal ball is broken!

  12. John wood says:

A few points – yes warm objects radiate more – the point is the CO2 blanket traps more of it on the planet – this is the reason we can even live at this point in the solar system. The higher levels of CO2 mean that more is trapped and less radiated to space! The energy levels of the planets weather patterns increase! The potential is thus for more extremes in weather phenomena!
In some instances higher ice levels in others less – same goes with droughts and storms more variation in the extremes. The real outcome is global climate change – not only or just global warming!
This was the basic science we were taught in the 1970s doing our degrees in science!

  13. John McC says:

Now the UK press are highlighting a Met Office report which shows that the global warming in the period 1980-1996, ceased in 1997. The earth has not warmed since then.

  14. Sharyn says:

Quick…. Someone write a press release to praise Australian (sub) Prime Minister Juliar Gillard.

The Labor Party’s carbon dioxide tax has worked!!
The South pole is getting colder!!!!

Someone should whack a great big tax on the guys in the north…. Then you’ll get record ice too!
    /sarc.

  15. Laurel says:

I have this vision of the pro agw staffers cringing and handing the item to a lowly junior. so they wont be Tainted…by having to write some FACTS :-)
but even then they had to try idiotically to link warming to freezing.

  16. Joe Thompson says:

Just a general question. When all that ice starts to melt, is there some chance it could effect the Ocean currents like the Gulf Stream?

  17. James says:

I’m pretty sure the $2 increase in gasoline *petrol* was largely due to the collapse in oil prices following the credit crunch in 2008…. Prices has almost doubled in the UK for just that reason…

  18. Kenneth Lund says:

Well at least somebody is honest for a change !

  19. phlogiston says:

Interestingly some recent research published by Tzedakis et al. points to a “bi-polar seesaw” – this is not a recreational cure for depression – but an alternating and reciprocal warming and cooling at the two poles: this phenomenon has been found to occur just before the end of an interglacial.

    Still … no worries, eh?
