That was not the only record set in Tulsa this weekend.

“We set a few records this weekend regarding the cold air,” said Alan Crone on News On 6 Weather.

“Saturday (Oct 6) set a record for coldest daytime high of 50 degrees.   Sunday (Oct 7) set a record for the earliest recorded freeze in Tulsa history.”

“Our normal-average high for today is 75 and the low is 53.”

Not surprised at all. I really think this winter will be something to watch for sure!!

I think it all depends on what El nino does if we get the bad winter we are due for. If it goes back to El nina we probably won’t get the crashing cold air masses to far south. Eventually though it won’t matter and the cold air masses will be so cold and so heavy that they will come down anyway.
    :(

It was the same for Oklahoma City and other parts of the state. Saturday’s 50° high was the lowest high for that date ever, and Monday’s 31° was the earliest frost ever recorded. Much welcomed after such a hot, dry summer.

And in Montana, the temperatures are forecast to be above average through December…. Fiddlin

I really don’t care about long-range forecasts, their track record seems worse than ever lately.
Large scale events like the severe heat and drought did not appear in any long range forecasts that I can recall.
The latest record cold was certainly not “forecast” more than a day or two ahead, nor the destruction of crops by cold in spring 2012 in the U.S. I don’t recall the very cold wet summer in the U.K. being “forecast”. Forces may be at work that are not included in the models.
