Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the entire B.C Peace. Heavy snowfall beginning overnight tonight.
Environment Canada says snow will start to fall tonight and we could receive up to 15cm by the end of Friday.
For Thursday, the region will still see a high of plus 10, but the temperature will drop tonight down to minus 1 before the snow starts sometime over night.

Heavy snowfall beginning overnight tonight.
A Pacific frontal system is forecast to produce significant snowfall accumulations in the BC Peace River region. The snow will begin overnight tonight and will likely continue through much of Friday. 10 to 15 cm of snow can be expected by the end of Friday. There is also a risk of freezing rain during the overnight hours tonight and early Friday morning.

A small, if widespread flurry does not an Ice Age make. 15 cm is a frosting. The Peace river is pretty far north…Diagnose new ice ages only after identifying meaningful trends. Long term trends.
I think the Arizona Spring was long and comfortable until mid-August. An ice age? No. Part of the 2000-2030 cooling period Robert has reported on, maybe. With MS, I’m hoping for steady, cooling weather soon. But let’s not jump the gun.
Based upon what I have read in “Not by Fire But by Ice,” there may not be any “meaningful trends” to go by in diagnosing a new period of cold and glaciation. There is quite a bit of solid, scientific evidence that new glacial epochs can occur suddenly, without any warning. Unsuspecting wooly mammoths and other mega fauna are found standing up where they were grazing, flash frozen with fresh grasses and flowers in their teeth and stomachs, i.e. during a growing season.
I live in the Peace and the forecast is not particularly unusual or record breaking but below normal for sure. The long term forecast however, shows we could be in for record low temps in 10 days or so. What I find interesting also is how quickly the Arctic ice is reforming, especially in the Bearing Sea, and it looks like half of Russia is already covered in snow. It is often an indicator of what is coming our way. Brr
15cm is 6 inches of snow and that is nothing on its own. In a day or two it will melt. If we see winter weather and snow cover that is longer lasting and making the other 3 seasons insignificant in duration then we have a problem.
Imagine a situation where spring, summer and fall in terms of weather conditions gets compressed into a 3 to 4 month time period and winter conditions takes up the rest of the year and each year winter gets a little longer untill spring, summer and fall are just 6 or 8 weeks out of a year and are barely noticeable any where north of lets say 40 degrees north. From there towards the equator the seasons gradually lengthen according to the latitude.
Imagine that sort of situation persisting with some variation for 100,000 years. That is what we have to watch for and adapt to if we are to survive as a species. Watch for the lengthening of winter conditions to the point where it dominates the years weather.

15cm may be a mere frosting to you, but here in the UK 15cm has the ability to close motorways and stop the trains running. Must public services including schools close down and we shiver, in some places without power, in the enormity of nature at it’s most majestic.
I grew up in Northern Illinois in the 50′s and 60′s. Most winters were very cold and we always had snow for Christmas … lots of it. However, if we got an early snow, which we did quite often, and the ground hadn’t frozen yet, then the warmth of the ground relative to the snow, would melt it rather quickly. Later, when it got colder, several hard frosts and frozen ground, then when it snowed, it stayed.
It’s been snowing every day for a week plus another 3-4 days of it in the forecast.
