The storm that hit late Monday and into Tuesday dumped up to three feet of heavy snow on West Virginia, snapping branches, downing power lines, closing dozens of roads, and cutting electricity to almost 300,000 customers . Officials expected the number power outages to rise.

More than 30 of West Virginia’s 55 counties had snow, with the heaviest snowfall at higher elevations, said Liz Sommerville, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Charleston, W.Va. Bowden

Areas above 3,000 feet had recorded 24 inches by early Tuesday, compared with 16 inches in Beckley, elevation 2,300 feet, and 9 inches in Charleston, elevation 980 feet.

” I got a feeling that a lot of weaker structures are going to come down,” said Gary Berti, of Davis, W.Va., where 30 inches of snow had fallen by Tuesday afternoon

Snow was expected to keep falling on mountainous areas through Wednesday, and blizzard warnings remained in effect in more than a dozen counties Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Western Maryland had recorded two feet of snow by Tuesday, and blizzard warnings remained in effect. More than 300,000 people in Maryland were without power Tuesday, with many outages in the Baltimore area.

In Pennsylvania, 1.25 million residents remained without power on Tuesday.

Well to have overhead electricity lines which is ancient technology and to have wooden houses??? I do agree it was a super storm but would have been a lot better if they have “real estate” in the US and NOT overhead electricity lines!!!!!
The infrastructure in the US just does not compare with the so-called “mighty america” ??
