Sandy could dump 2 feet of heavy wet snow on West Virginia
Hurricane Sandy is “looking like a very serious storm that could be historic,” said Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the forecasting service Weather Underground.
Variously called “Frankenstorm,” “the Halloween Hurricane” and “a nor’easter on steroids” by national weather forecasters, Sandy is expected to be a “monstrous” storm that poses a serious threat for the entire Eastern Seaboard, from Norfolk and D.C. to Boston
Sandy’s impacts could be “catastrophic,” warns accuweather.com. “(It’s) an extremely rare and dangerous storm … putting 60 million people in its path and could lead to billions of dollars in damage.”
“The impacts will range from widespread destructive winds, heavy rainfall and coastal flooding to even heavy, wet snow,” says Weather.com.
Monster Halloween Storm in the cards for the second year in a row, warns meteorologist Joe D’Aleo of icecap.us/
“Wherever Sandy comes ashore will get 10 inches of rain and extreme storm surges, Louis Uccellini, NOAA’s environmental prediction director, said in a Friday news conference. Other areas not directly on Sandy’s entry path will still get 4 to 8 inches of rain, maybe more, he said. Up to 2 feet of snow should fall on West Virginia, with lighter snow in parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania, regardless of where Sandy first hits.”
“It’s going to be a long-lasting event, two to three days of impact for a lot of people,” said James Franklin, forecast chief for the National Hurricane Center. “Wind damage, widespread power outages, heavy rainfall, inland flooding and somebody is going to get a significant surge event.”
That storm surge will only be magnified by the full moon this weekend to make it a “dangerous period,” Uccellini said.
The hybrid storm is predicted to linger through as many as eight high tides while a high pressure system to the north holds it in place.

Frankenstorm is looking a bit freightening weather forecasters are calling the event the real deal. It will merge with another massive low pressure over canada and dump tons of rain into the North east parts of north america and canada.
Not too unusual for late Oct., Early Nov.
But How about that sensationalism? Frankenstorm!. . . Aaaughh! – First it was a hurricane, then it was a tropical storm, and now it’s a hurricane again.
Hey people!, forget about Benghazi, it’s all Sandy all the time now. Maybe it’ll landfall on DC and stay a week, the place needs a good flushing.
With record early and late season cold and snow seeming to occur every year, and now Hurricane Sandy, I wonder if we are already in an Ice Age but just don’t know it.
The silver lining is those in the path have had plenty of lead time to bunker down and sandbag up. Good luck to you. Keep you and yours safe.
Downgraded to a tropical storm, so will be a damp squid. Hopefully will not influence the US election.
Such garbage reporting is so sad. This in not unusual in any way as a quick look through the records show. There been many Cat3/4 hurricanes late in seasons just look them up.

I imagine that it can be alot more than 2 feet. Maybe it can be like another Romania.
Its more deadly than irene lastyear, sandy has claimed 58 lives now.Downed trees, slick roads, powerlines down, flooding can increase the tragedy. This storm should be respected with caution.
What’s unusual about it is that it is supposed to sharply veer to the left. Supposedly, that movement is unheard of. It is supposed to create a huge storm surge.
Normal, abnormal, or harbinger of the next ice age, it’s a dangerous storm. The Weather Channel hurricane “expert” is now saying the WV mountains may get 50 inches. 4-8 inches of rain over 10,000 square miles is no joke either.
This past summer meltdown of just surface ice on Greenland glacial icesheet is being blamed for this out of ordinary storm sandy. One of the previous iceage meltdowns, cannot recall the exact event…could have actually spawned a new one by freshwater interfering with Atlantic ocean currents ages ago. Their saying same event may be on the way. This storm may be a subtle hint to what’s ahead because its strange path. http://nesaranews.blogspot.ca/2012/10/horrific-superstorm-targets-us-after.html?m=1

Last year the media were ecstatic with terror at the thought of Hurricane Irene. Piers Corbyn of WeatherAction.com forecast Irene would head further East than predicted, causing much less damage than predicted. He was right. He recently forecast that Hurricane Sandy would also head further East than predicted. Let’s hope he’s right. Still best to take precautions. If it does head East, can I suggest you all write to your congressmen (or whoever is appropriate) asking why the US weather service, state emergency planners and the media are not subscribing to WeatherAction.com ‘s excellent forecasts. We all know why they aren’t – if they subscribe they have to admit that Global Warming is a hoax and that we are now heading into a Little Ice Age or even a full size one! They’ll have to admit that Robert Felix, IceAgenow.info, Piers Corbyn, WeatherAction.com, and Habibullo Abdusamatov are all right and they’re wrong. They won’t like admitting they’re wrong, and they won’t like undoing the climate taxes global warming brings. But everyone should write them anyway – they deserve a bit of goading! Hopefully NJ and NYC should both be OK. See http://bit.ly/QQvj9t “Piers Corbyn of WeatherAction.com announced 7am BST 2am EDT Thurs Oct25 That the track of Sandy from Friday 26th onwards is likely to be TO THE EAST OF THE STANDARD MODEL TRACK (ie curving slightly rightwards compared to standard models – such as forecast iaaued 2am edt Oct 25 http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at201218_5day.html ) and so LESS OF A THREAT to mainland USA. “This will happen because of solar particle factors and we are 80% sure of this. We made similar corrections to the track of Irene and some other Storms last year which were confirmed – see http://www.weatheraction.com/docs/WANews11No15.pdf “ Stay safe and warm.
