Scotland and northern England told to prepare for snow.

  • Frosts, snow and sleet by the weekend
  • Daytime temperatures not expected to reach double figures

hope we get a few meters by january ;)

When autumn is this cold, we are heading for a very cold winter, although the present solar cycle 24 is almost at its peak. Two years from now the solar cycle will be going down and professor Abdussamatov has predicted the beginning of a new Little Ice Age by 2014. The writing on the wall is getting more and more visible, but most politicians are in denial and – stupid as they are – still believe in global warming.

The Wetterzentrale 9-day projection indicates that a second arctic blast could envelope the British isles by 1/2 November. Interestingly, there is some evidence of a mid Atlantic blocking pattern establishing itself. The odds are, I would think, on a colder than average November.

–I really don’t know what is going on! Three times now the papers have been promising/threatening us in Britain with snow or at least very cold temperatures but three times they have changed their minds. Over the last couple of nights on the TV and even this morning, yes, the forecast has been for frost and low temperatures in most of England with some ‘wintry showers’ or snow up in Scotland. This evening (Wednesday 24th) they are now sayng that temperatures will rise on Sunday…so we shall just have to wait and see.

I think the next time it’s ‘forecast’ I’ll wait until the snow is on the ground and a couple of feet thick before letting you know, Bruce!

It looks like winter may be coming early to the northern hemisphere. My former employer has a tamerac tree that sheds its needles just before it snows and he is expecting the tree to be bare very soon. Out west on Vancouver Island at mount Washington it has been snowing for at least the last couple days. The humidity is 95% and the temperature is 1.5 to 5 C degrees below zero depending on the time of day. Just about right for heavy wet snow. Click on the link to see what is happening.

Here in Sunny SE Queensland we had a record October (mid Spring here) cold “event” which saw snow in the “mountains” at sub-tropical latitudes – then some hot weather as tropical air came south for a few days and now we’re back to very cool weather with south easterly winds bringing cold air north again.

No matter what anyone says 2012 has been a very cool year here.

The first six months were extremely wet and the last 4 have almost been drought.

None of the above was envisioned by the climate experts – OK they did predict everlasting heat and drought – None of the above …..

I like how they say it is a ” cold snap”

    Winter
    (From “Love’s Labour’s Lost”)

    by William Shakespeare
(Who lived and wrote at about the mid-point of the Little Ice Age!!)

When icicles hang by the wall,
And Dick the shepherd blows his nail,
And Tom bears logs into the hall,
And milk comes frozen home in pail,
When blood is nipp’d and ways be foul,
Then nightly sings the staring owl,
    Tu-whit;Tu-who, a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

When all aloud the wind doth blow,
And coughing drowns the parson’s saw,
And birds sit brooding in the snow,
And Marion’s nose looks red and raw,
When roasted crabs hiss in the bowl,
Then nightly sings the staring owl,
    Tu-whit; Tu-who, a merry note,
While greasy Joan doth keel the pot.

I wouldn’t trust the newspapers’ weather predictions Cliffhild! But I have found the NEW methods used by http://www.WeatherAction.com/ make their long range forecasts surprisingly accurate. They forecast this coming UK cold period in their SEPTEMBER 14 forecast – 6 weeks ahead! And they say we can expect some more VERY wintry weather during the first half of November, followed by a sudden change to some very warm weather. They also do forecasts for other parts of the world, especially the USA and Europe.

I feel a classified ad coming on: “Wanted: Welder with experience of brazing for reattaching spherical objects to metallic primate.” LOL. (If you don’t understand, Google “off a brass monkey” – with the quote marks – interesting for sailors, zoologists, climatologists and linguists alike).

If you want the detail for your particular part of the world, you’ll have to subscribe to their forecasts. If you want detail of the coming cold spell for your area, I can let the first 5 people who email me have a copy of the UK forecast. Email me at: nic stoneman at yahoo co uk (PLEASE NOTE: no K in my email address – remove spaces, convert “at” to symbol, and add dots between “Yahoo” and “co”, then “co” and “uk”, to get a proper email address).

WeatherAction.com agree with Ice Age Now that we are in for some Ice Age weather over the next 25+ years. They refer to it as a Little Ice Age – but I guess if it stays for 100,000 years we can call it an ice age! Stay warm. Nick

In the Western Cape South Africa, we had snow on the mountains a few days ago.
Today is the first warm day we have had in ages.

  11. Rhys Jaggar says:

Temperature’s certainly coming, the snow may just miss if the front passes over the North Sea and Norway rather than over the country. It’s air coming straight from the arctic and it will penetrate down to the Alps, where that cold air is expected to meet warm, moist air pushing in from the Mediterranean. Snow in the valleys of Switzerland, Austria and Czech Republic is forecast for the weekend. Not sure how much though. It’s certainly not unheard of in late October – 1981 saw the first major storm of the year in the last week of October/beginning of November in Austria and all the ski lifts opened about 6 weeks early.

  12. Nicola says:

Just seen a blizzard in the middle of a city centre in the UK. 26th October. Earliest I’ve seen heavy snow since I can remember…
