There was a sudden small earthquake swarm near the Old Faithful geyser last week, says reader William Vos.

Also a renewed activity of old geysers at Yellowstone that became dormant 25 years ago : http://www.yellowstonegate.com/2012/06/dormantyellowstone-geysers-active-again/

Points to a more active volcano and that’s confirmed by this http://www.ouramazingplanet.com/887-yellowstone-caldera-uplift-110207.html

  1. Kenneth Lund says:

Good ! Can’t wait for a maga Yellowstone eruption and then this will teach everyone a lesson that magnetic reversals and super volcanes are linked.

  2. Frank says:

    N o t Good! :(

  3. Butch Young says:

    Eeeeek.

  4. Steve says:

Kenneth, your assuming that there would be people left alive to learn this lesson.
A full blown super volcano eruption would be an extinction level event.
Maybe a few Eskimos and Papua New Guineans left if we are lucky.
Be careful what you wish for.

  5. TomO says:

Interesting point of view, Ken. I take it you’re not from the states. Long Valley has had elevated activity these past few weeks as well. I think several more super volcanoes around the world have been doing a little shaking, so it must be one helluva reversal in the making, eh?

  6. Mike says:

Well it would be a huge problem world wide. Added to the rest of the world problems. Ahh Will anybody even notice.

  7. igor says:

I know meddling with 2 car speakers magnets need a lot of force by hand to hold the 2 together,on a micro-scale its a lot of power. Now,the earth core magnetics have unlimited power and a reversal might force the magma to terra firma where man lives. Siberian traps may be evidence to a living nightmare, that all of us are basically floating on rocks on a sea of lava in the fires of hell..Earth magnetics reversing can unleash unlimited power and destruction. It is said that the ionosphere (electro magnetism)created by the Mohorovicic discontinuity theory if harnessed would make all other power sources obsolete.

  8. Steven Rowlandson says:

It might be too early to press the panic button.
However considering the ancient history of super eruptions it would be wise to continue to keep a close eye on what is really going on and do real science instead of freaking people out with rumor and half truths. When Yellowstone really wants to erupt the signs will be very obvious and it will be the scientists who will be freaking out and the politicians and media trying to cover it up.

    • TomO says:

Actually, when Yellowstone is truly ready to erupt, there will be absolutely nothing said about it by the scientists, the politicans, or the media. They will, however, move to safer ground. No, the common man will find out about it only as it happens – don’t want to panic them, you know, with REAL danger, just the make believe type of “global warming.”

      • Steven Rowlandson says:

TomO I take it you believe the powers that be will be successfull in gagging the scientists. The only sure fire way to do that is to secretly shoot the scientists in question. When yellowstone does have another super eruption there will be no assurance that the threat to scientists of losing their jobs for speaking out will have any power as civilization as we know it may infact come close to ending. I don’t think there is much to lose if the truth is told and there might even be a benefit. That being saving some lives. No point in having the situation being any worse than it will be at the time. The biggest justification for having the YVO is early warning.

Here is an interactive map of yellowstone and you can click on icons to access data and webcam pictures.

Yellowstone park and the thin earth crust it sits on… is not the thinnest out of all the weak spots around the world that’s the scary part. They have discovered that earth crust at some under ocean locations have a narrow 4 to 5 km thickness, considering there’s a few thousand kms of fluid and earth structure of various viscosity, that is alarming. Its like stacking a hundred bibles pulling out one page from the top,if I make some sort of analogy.

Strange that this swarm of earthquakes are happening very close to the national elections. What is really worrisome is the fact that Congress has told FEMA to plan for massive deaths. Wonder if there has been a high level of HAARP activity in that area.. HAARP could be used to set off a massive eruption at Yellowstone or at Longs Valley Caldera in California.
There has been a high level of HAARP activity along the mid Atlantic states that could have set off the earthquake in Maine last week. Small by West Coast standards but big by East Coast standards. plus the eastern US is not prepare for either a major earthquake or tidal wave.
You can check HAARP activity at haarpstatus.com.
Also be on the alert that extinct super volcano in New Mexico could also become active.

A wee bit strange north america wide rumbling not sure what caused cave of the winds collapse and a rock slide at niagara falls yesterday,I’m still browsing for answers. New York state and Ontario not sure if any seismic activity was recorded nearby in the last 2 days. If HAARP really does exist in Alaska, probably need less energy to effect harmonics on the thin crust upper mantle of Y.N.P. Jesse Ventura conspiracy T.V. Show aired one of his episodes about the HAARP subject. What do I know I’m not a physics major.

  12. Rosco says:

There hasn’t been an active volcano in Aus for who knows how long – not good news for NZ though.

This is not an invitation by the way.

    • David Kane says:

      @Rosco

Mt Gambier erupted 2900 BC. Included pyroclastic flows. Area west of Melbourne to SA border, including Hanging Rock muliple mono genetic volcanos from BC 12000 to around 2000 BC. Most are classified dormant – not extinct. Off Tasmania several undersea volcanos known with some erupting in last ten years.

The data is available but nobody discusses it much. Western Vic from suburban Melbourne (Keilor) to SA border is one of the largest volcanic plateaus in the world.
Ever wondered how Tasmania became isolated from Australia’s mainland? Wasn’t just ice melt from the poles. Whole mountain ranges were submerged. Massive EQ – now the Frankston – Belgrave fault.

Link here is a repost of my comment at the Kilauea Lava lake rising thread:
Interesting related event – do they know something we don’t know? Recently USGS held a conference in Flagstaff, AZ: “The “Volcanism in the American Southwest” conference on Oct. 18-19 in Flagstaff, Ariz. was organized by the USGS, Northern Arizona University, University at Buffalo, and New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, the meeting included interdisciplinary talks, posters, and panel discussions, providing an opportunity for volcanologists, land managers, and emergency responders to meet, converse, and begin to plan protocols for any future volcanic activity.

Related news, 6 Italian seismologists have been sentenced today to 6 years each for failing to predict earthquake that killed 300 people in 2009. It seems to me then technology exists to predict earthquakes, that is what this judge is projecting in my opinion…God help us. I can’t understand how they can be made responsible for apparently unpredictable mother nature.

  15. Jim Andrews says:

I sort of hate to admit it, but I am in a somewhat similar boat as Lund. I want Yellowstone to erupt and I too live in North America. I just don’t want a massive one that will kill lots of people, just one big enough to stir the pot, you know cool the climate a bit, maybe like the year with no summer and it could plunge us into a mini iceage, as we are already on the threshold with low sunspot count. Now that would quiet the warmests.

In the long run it would do good, we would stop throwing money at the global warming myth. Ironically 70 million was just spent on a super computer named “Yellowstone” to generate new climate models to predict a supposed warming. What a joke…
