Another cold front is sweeping across the country’s northern areas, bringing heavy snow and blizzards.

On Monday, snowfalls hit northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the northeast provinces of Heilongjiang and Jilin.

In Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia, snowstorms have severely affected agriculture and husbandry production.

The snow and ice have blocked roads.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) Truck Driver:
“The weather is too bad, and the snow is too heavy. I cannot drive and just wait here. The road is icy and slippery.”

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) Police:
“Several heavy trucks loaded with corns are stuck there. It’s better for the drivers to stay in the league at night to wait till the ice is melt.”

The National Meteorological Center forecast snowstorms are expected in the regions in the next two days.

Temperatures in most parts of northeast China will fall by four to six degrees Celsius, with strong winds expected.

Some regions could experience temperature drops by eight degrees Celsius.

  3. Argiris Diamantis says:

These blizzards are likely to be the worst snowstorms in NE China in the last 50 years. And more snow is on the way, this is not just a temporarily “cold snap”.
