BBC – Snowfalls forecast across large parts of UK
The UK Met Office has issued an amber “be prepared” warning for snow disruption in north-east England, Yorkshire and Humber, and the East Midlands.
Some 2-5cm could fall on lower ground and 10cm on higher ground in these regions during the day, it said.
A lesser “be aware” warning has been issued for other parts of England, Wales and Scotland.
Northern and eastern regions are expected to have the highest snow accumulations, the Met Office warned.
Wales and south-east England will also see some snow throughout Monday.
Parts of Scotland, which already experienced snowy scenes on Sunday, will also get more snow on Monday.
Temperatures were low across the UK overnight from Saturday into Sunday, with the lowest reading at minus 6C at Shap in Cumbria at 03:00 GMT.
The cold is set to continue throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, with snow forecast for eastern England and Scotland on those days.

Are You Prepared?

I recommend this DVD

It’s -13°F here in Laramie, Wyoming, right now. No alerts issued. Temps have been in the negative more nights than not since about mid-December. Everyone just expects it. Looks like a “warm snap” is on the way though with highs in the 30s by end of week. That’ll be real nice.
It’s raining!!
When I left home at 05:30 this morning, the temperature was registering a BITTERLY COLD 0°C. By the time I had struggled 50 miles east to work it was AN ARTIC -1°C, and we had BEEN IMPACTED BY all most ¼” of snow, some of which had actually settled on the road! Apparently it could reach an UNPRECIDENTED ½” before turning to rain later.
I know other parts of the country will see a bit more snow, but it is the middle of January for heaven’s sake. What words will the BBC find to use as hyperbole when we really do get some winter weather, or even a touch of something like a lot of the rest of the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing at the moment? Perhaps the plan is to convince the sheeple that what we are experiencing is really bad weather, then they won’t be too bothered if they stumble across a site like Ice Age now.
This forecast is extremely normal and is not news worthy. They only mention this to let people know that there is a risk so that they can avoid driving or cover up their early spring plants etc.
It is no different than the bbc website reporting that there may be gales or heavy rain causing floods or a summer heatwave. Its there to inform people, and it is no way anything abnormal.
If we had 2 weeks of temperatures below freezing and 1ft of snow, then things would be classed as a bit more unusual.
I am sorry to say this but all these reports do is make everything appear to be agenda motivated to prove that the earth is cooling which in turn is as bad as reports on ‘the arctic is experiencing record warmth’.
Records show (original records) that the earth is cooling BUT reports on ‘normal’ weather doesn’t do anythign to support the case.
This is not really anything out of the ordinary.
Time will tell if we get more, but anything less than 20cm is just a few times a decade event.
If we start talking a foot of snow outside the hills, then we’re talking something significant.
It may yet come…….
Here in Belfast it was +5C this afternoon – only marginally below the mean January maxima. The city has still not received any snow since December, 2010.
it’s very cold here in Oslo. -17 in some parts of the city. And it’s snowing.
That was yesterday. Today the MET Office has upgraded the warning for England to level three, just one step down from a national emergency.

Thanks for all the information you digging up for us Argiris!
I believe I speak for many here!:-)
british kiddies wont know what snow is hey?
Roflmao!
I suspect they actually do:-)
—as one might say ‘Big Deal’! Not exactly 10 ft of snow, is it???
Not quite what Piers was forecasting yet.
Its raining at about 2 degrees above freezing in the far SE on Monday night.
No snow for us in Southern England, still waiting.
Unless you’re 35+ then this ‘wintry’ weather seems cold. Anyone over this age will be wondering what the fuss is about as this cold snap is really very moderate. Come on BBC/Newspapers get a grip. I do agree with Robert that far worse is on the way (timescale uncertain) and then there will be something to write about. Let’s hope more people become aware what’s round the corner and can be more prepared than they are now.
I saw some snow yesterday .. 1 – 2 inches everywhere, it was all gone soon after lunch. Yes, it’s cold, and there may be more snow soon, but apart from a few areas (mostly in Scotland which is 500+ miles north of me) it’s not often that we have snow on the ground for more than 2 – 3 days, or to have day time temperatures below freezing. December 2010 was an exception, the whole of the UK was covered in snow, many places for several weeks.
Temperatures worldwide have been falling since 2005 on the average (after a “plateau” from 2001 to 2005)

2010 saw the highest average of recent years, dwarfed only by the impressive high of 1998.
The average fell abruptly at the end of 2010 due to formation of a powerful La Nina episode, which was followed by another one at the end of 2011 bringing the average to even lower levels.
Another La Nina could be in the making in the months ahead

and probably push temperatures down around the world again.
We are bound to see significant snow in the south of the UK again one day. I don’t really remember 1963, but what we had in the late 1970s early 1980s would cause absolute chaos today. Some of the late 1800 events sound like real fun. It’s all a cycle. The question is just how far down will the cycle dip this time. Try to be reasonably prepared, it’s too late once the snow comes down.

Eco-Geek: From two weeks or more out Piers predicted a -16C frost in north/central Britain in the 14th-16th Jan period and this morning -13C were reported at several locations. The MO-Beeb predicted minima were highly variable over the last 48 hrs though they eventually settled for -10 to -12. Likewise their predictions for the precipitation coming in from the SW was also highly variable in location and type, but their synoptic chart for Friday is uncannily like what Piers predicted weeks ago. One wonders what Piers could do if he had the purchasing power from even the interest on the tens of millions of public money spent recently on the Met Office computer system.
Ron. I’m still not sure about Piers.
There’s nothing new under the sun they say.

Piers Corbyn of Weather Action predicted the weather that is going to hit the UK over the period 17th 18th 19th and 20th of January. He made this forecast in December, his forecast for December made in November was spot on. Everyone should take some time to visit Piers Corbyn’s site “Weatheraction” to find out what is really going on with our weather systems along with big Joe Bastardi of accuweather and
please spread the word of these sites along with this truthfull and honest site Ice Age Now.
