Snow strands thousands at Tokyo airport
Sections of several highways around Tokyo were closed as workers cleared away snow and ice.
Tokyo’s Narita International Airport operator says 3,400 travelers spent Monday night in the terminal after snow caused airlines to cancel 71 flights.
About 3 inches of snow fell in central Tokyo and around Narita on Monday, snarling traffic and delaying trains.
Airport officials distributed sleeping bags, water and crackers to stranded travelers. Most normal flight operations at Narita resumed on Tuesday.

That sounds like a joke. 3 lousy inches of snow! Right now, its snowing here in Ashby, Massachusetts and there is more than 3 inches of snow. Massachusetts is far from being at a standstill. Japan sounds like it is populated with major drama queens.
Narita is the worst airport in the developed world to get stranded at too.
Wow! That’s very much NOT like Japanese people. I bet the airport is mostly ran by immigrants who have minimum experience.
Unlike the west side of Japan which can get as much as a metre of snow fall per day and have the snow moving equipment to deal with the snow, Tokyo which is on the east side rarely gets snow so are not equipped to deal with it.
Also most people in Tokyo don’t have snow tyres on their cars and most are not 4WD.
Where I live here in the mountains we got 8 inches of snow Tuesday, but cars moved, people got about.
I had no problem driving through 8 inches of snow as my car is 4WD and has winter tyres.
They also bulldozed the bigger roads, something that doesn’t happen in Tokyo.
As for Tokyo airport, well it is actually called Narita international airport, and the reason it is called Narita, because that is the name of the area in Chiba prefecture, the airport is actually not in Tokyo but in the neibouring prefecture Chiba.
They get even less snow than Tokyo and are even less equipped to deal with snow.
And the airport is very dis-organised, which is very un-Japanese actually.
Tokyo is very much like England, get a little dusting of snow and the whole place grinds to a stop!!!!
Does school close or at least have 2 hour delays (Late start) outside of Tokyo?
Here in Silverton Oregon we have freezing fog which lead to a 2 hour delay this morning because half the students live higher up in the hills.
