Sudden climate transitions during the Quaternary
“All the evidence indicates that most long-term climate change occurs in sudden jumps rather than incremental changes.”
Sudden climate transitions during the Quaternary
By Jonathan Adams, Mark Maslin & Ellen Thomas
Article in press in Progress in Physical Geography
Abstract:
“The time span of the past few million years has been punctuated by many rapid climate transitions, most of them on time scales of centuries to decades or even less.
Introduction:
“Until a few decades ago it was generally thought that all large-scale global and regional climate changes occurred gradually over a timescale of many centuries or millennia, scarcely perceptible during a human lifetime. The tendency of climate to change relatively suddenly has been one of the most suprising outcomes of the study of earth history, specifically the last 150,000 years (e.g., Taylor et al., 1993). Some and possibly most large climate changes (involving, for example, a regional change in mean annual temperature of several degrees celsius) occurred at most on a timescale of a few centuries, sometimes decades, and perhaps even just a few years.”
Although the authors found evidence that dramatic past climate changes of several degrees celsius “occurred at most on a timescale of a few centuries, sometimes decades, and perhaps even just a few years,” they still pay lip service to global warming, using their findings to warn against human-generated greenhouse gases.
This, even though those rapid changes occurred during times when humans would have had no impact on the climate whatsoever. I find this reprehensible.
If you’ve read “Not by Fire but by Ice,” you know that I’ve been talking about these sudden climate changes for years. They’re entirely natural, and not driven by CO2.

Good news! A publisher in Italy has now translated Not by Fire but by Ice into Italian.

Of course they pay lip service to global warming. Because if they didn’t, it would mean their study would not pass the peer review process and would not be published, they would never get funding for new research, they would loose their jobs and they would be outcasted from the so called “scientific” community. So we must always “read between the lines”.
How about the Vikings during their global warming period and some left for England when they finally could get back there two centuries later because of all the ice, they found that they had starved and frozen to death.
well something sudden sure snap froze a hell of a lot of animals as well as mammoths all over the nth hemisphere and it wasnt us then either:-)
There is precedent in recorded history for this, for instance, the cooldown from the medieval warm period to the little ice age is generally accepted to have been done within a few decades, certainly less than 100 years.
I am a scientist and a young earth creationist. Although I would disagree with their timescale for earth, the behavior they describe is consistent with what one would expect with a nonlinear system, which of course the weather/climate is. In such a “chaotic” system, the system time response would orbit around an equilibrium point for some period of time before abruptly jumping to an orbit around another equilibrium point, where it would remain for some period of time. Of course in the case of climate/weather, the period of time in orbit around an equilibrium point could easily be decades or centuries.
You have to understand that the experts are no less willing to abandon their global warming than the Roman church was willing to acknowledge that Earth was not the center of the universe -even though they knew it to be true. But to prove how enlightened we are, at least the warmists don’t literally burn heretics in the public square. Destroy them, but not burn them. Perhaps they would if it didn’t have a religious connotation.
Many, many great civilizations have fallen in the past due to SUDDEN climate change, the Incas, Mayas, Aztecs, Anasazi, Romans to name just a few. Many others will be revealed once ocean levels drop 300 feet yet again to reveal civilization habitats from unknown peoples. Again, people will forget their history and when ice dams break entire cities will be swept away yet again. “When we fail to learn from our past we are doomed to repeat it.” The flat-earth society or AGW is ensuring history is being repeated.
