Lowest temperatures in a century.

In Calcutta, the mercury dropped to 9C (48F) – balmy for London or New York in winter, but here it was the coldest day for 100 years.

All across one of the world’s biggest cities you could hear millions of mothers frantically telling their children “Toopi por, thanda lege jabe,” which means, “Wear a (monkey) hat, otherwise you will catch a cold.”

Read all of this article, which describes the monkey cap.

Other than the fact that it makes a joke of the cold, whereas if it were record warmth you’d be reading a gut-wrenching description of the hardhips being endured by Calcutta’s residents, it’s still a fun article.

Ahh, c’mon BBC! You know it’s all due to AGW! (sarc)

  2. John McC says:

The 9C must have been a minimum temperature. Daytime highs will be around 33-34C over the coming days.

  3. M Kauble says:

Hi Robert, glad you are back up and running. Strange weather to be sure. We should be prepared for bad weather to come. Food growing techniques,
and survival even if our Gov’ts keep this from the
    people.

  4. Laurel says:

9c isnt exactly cosy but I guess to the indians used to far warmer humid weather its nippy.
I noted the babies sleeping OUT in Minus10C stockholm story , same page.

we should keep “the coldest day for 100 years” in mind, because I truly believe we’re going back to those times again (in terms of climate).
