“(Readers) have figured out that it is a steaming pile of horse manure…”

Signs of the Times: New York Times Kills Green Blog

By Alan Caruba

Fewer and fewer people care about the apocalyptic claims and outright lies of the environmental movement these days.

The end of the world is nowhere in sight unless a stray asteroid is headed our way and, after some seventeen years of a natural cooling cycle, it’s hard to convince people that global warming is a problem.

In January The New York Times that has printed every global warming lie it could since the late 1980s shut down its “environmental desk” and reassigned its editors and reporters to other tasks. On March 1 it announced it was discontinuing the “Green Blog”, leaving only Andrew C. Revkin to rave on at “Dot Earth.”

Tim Graham, the Director of Media Analysis at the Media Research Center, noted that Revkin’s paycheck is being underwritten by financing from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation and, if that dries up, Revkin will have to take his fear-mongering somewhere else. Graham opined that “The reality must be that people don’t read it (Green Blog) and people simply don’t find global warming a scintillating subject. So much for the notion it’s the ‘story of the century.’”

The Times promised “we will forge ahead with our aggressive reporting on environmental and energy topics, including climate change, land use, threatened ecosystems, government policy, the fossil fuel industries, the growing renewable sector and consumer choices.” Readers have already made their choice; they are no longer interested in the torrent of lies that pours forth from the pages of the Times on the topics they will continue to report about. They have figured out that it is a steaming pile of horse manure.

It won’t be long before other print news media conclude that writing about “climate change”, aka global warming, no longer gets their reader’s hearts pumping faster.

A case in point from the alternative world of Internet blogs is the fact that 13 of the 17 blogs nominated for Best Science & Technology Weblog Awards were those of climate and environmental skeptics!

At The Guardian, a British daily that, like the Times, never failed to report that the Earth is warming, Leo Hickman who writes an environmental blog for it was fuming. He accused the climate skeptics of “gaming” the awards competition because they have succeeded in generating so much enthusiasm.

P. Gosselin, the writer of the No Tricks Zone blog admitted that “It was tough not to gloat” after reading Hickman’s screed. “It’s indeed a good look at a sour grapes display by the increasingly defeated looking alarmist side, now that they see they have got no chance of winning. Of the five finalists, four are skeptic blogs. The sole remaining alarmist blog, Skeptical Science, has dropped out.”

“The problem for them”, the alarmist blogs, “is that nobody is listening to their message any more. And, except for themselves, nobody else even has an inkling of enthusiasm left to nominate them, let alone vote. They’re rapidly sinking into irrelevance.”

It took time, but a consensus has been growing about the alarmists, whether it’s their absurd claims or the media that has been reporting them. It will take more time—and Mother Nature—before more people conclude that they have been victimized by the Greens who have foisted “renewable energy” (solar and wind) that not only provides less electricity than traditional sources, but drives up their bills in the process.

Environmentalism has never really been about science or even the Earth. Judi Bari of Earth First made that clear when she said, “If we don’t overthrow capitalism, we don’t have a chance of saving the world ecologically” or Michael Oppenheimer of the Environmental Defense Fund who said, “”The only hope for the world is to make sure there is not another United States. We can’t let other countries have the same number of cars, the amount of industrialization we have in the U.S. We have to stop these Third World countries right where they are.”

Writing recently in Investors Daily Business, Dennis Prager, a syndicated columnist, noted that the Philippines recently decided after twelve years to permit the planting of genetically modified (GM) rice. The reason for the reversal was that 4.4 million Filipino children suffer from vitamin A deficiency, causing 250,000 to 500,000 children to go blind; half die within a year.” GM rice provides that vital vitamin. The Greens there and everywhere fight against the use of GM crops.

“So who would oppose something that could save millions of children’s lives and millions of other children from blindness?” asked Prager. “The answer is people who are move devoted to nature than to human life. They are called environmentalists. These are the same people who coerced nations worldwide into banning DDT.”

Who is really saving the world and our fellow humans? The skeptics. The scientists and others who have debunked the lies and exposed the agenda of the environmentalists. The Green Blog is dead. It is a victory for all of us.

We can cheer and scream “we are winning” not when the alarmist blogs drop off the internet, or the alarmist columns drop out of print, but ONLY when climate change ceases to be funded by governments, and laws are passed to reverse the damage. Until that day, it’s only “high fiving” and back slapping by the inmates as they are lined up in front of the firing squad. Until the government listens to the people better with regards to “the green movement” than it has about the endless wars, it’s only a helluva hollow victory leading nowhere.

    • Robert says:

Sadly very true. I actually think we’re losing the battle.

      • TomO says:

In part it’s because “the facts” aren’t emotional, and without wrapping them in emotion, you can’t reach the public that can only react to emotion. It’s all part of the way we “educate” people today. We work their emotions, not their intellect.

And yes, we are losing the battle, but the fight goes on between intellect and emotion, with intellect losing and not understanding why. Run articles that deliver emotion – people being overrun by an avalanche, a sinkhole eating someone’s house, and see the comments, versus an article on purely scientific results. I am surprised, though, that this article did draw more comments.

        • Ken says:

I doubt that the UN ever really believed in Man Made Global Warming/Climate Change. It is just their latest attempt to setup a Global Government. First Step to becoming a Government is to TAX it’s people for the Good of All. In the case of the UN, the People are the Nations of the World. What has the UN been trying to do based on GW – Tax the Nations of the World for the Good of All.

        • B Scaggs says:

Actually, it did draw more comments, but they didn’t get published, cause apparently it’s not Ok to be anti-warmists AND anti-GMO…
maybe that’s why ‘you’ are losing the battle. Not enough room in the tent for ‘the rest of us’

          Pity.

  2. Davew says:

It is good to see the dying enthusiasm for pro AGW media.

As for GMO. Well it certainly is dangerous. And it certainly is a lame excuse for its use just to get vitamin A. A is easily gotten elsewhere.

  3. Laurel says:

    some points
aus is going to cease the carbon tax as soon as the present party is OUT,
possible remaining carbon trading may with some pushing also be dumped.
one states already repealed a LOT of the agenda 21 kyoto crap regs.
    so there IS hope.
    re gmo however…NO WAY
the scam costing BILLIONS for coloured rice is shite!
some carrot or other normal plants would provide as much, and poor folks still cant buy the gm or normal of they have NO JOB due to the greenfools removing their land use and amenity. or the OS investors buying their land out from under then for cheap production for os sales. see africa lately china eu and usa taking the best land n water from the poor, starving. benefits them? None.
re DDT the ABUSE of it same as roundup etc now, was wholesale and WAS a threat to all.
limited controlled use is ok for malarial areas, NOT on home gardens. the ad campaign DDT is good for me… showing kids playing in ddt treated water? wtf?
and pray tell how is monopoly capitalism any diff from communist control?
One or two companies controlling the worlds seed?>
    are you nuts?
anyone gaining that much control whatever system they use is BAD!

    • TomO says:

Good to here that Australia is planning change. I’ll believe it, however, when I read it actually happens.l Governments have a habit of saying one thing and doing the opposite.

On DDT, there are two very different sides to the argument. There is plenty of facts that speak to its benefits far beyond malarial control, and a lot of “green” twisting of facts that can be determined to be otherwise. Not sure which is right.

As for “monopoly capitalism,” there is no such thing. What you are talking about isn’t capitalism any more than is “communism” the same as “socialism.” The trouble is we bastardize words as fast as they can be created, so half the time, half the people have no idea what the other half is saying.

Finally, “global warming” in a cooling world is designed for only one purpose – population reduction by “natural causes.” Take away cheap energy and convert land to biomass production and you are guaranteeing that in a cooling climate, where the growing season is shorter, and the acreage available for food production is greatly diminished, millions if not billions of people will freeze or starve to death. When people stop thinking that AGW is about wallet rape and start realizing it is life threatening, maybe there will be enough emotion to shake the cobwebs out of the heads of the texting, video gaming, tattoo crazed, body piercing, sex happy fools that modern education systems are turning out in droves.

    • Laurel: The misnomers, right-wing and left-wing confuse most people. The true scale is from 0% government (not likely to happen) to 100% government. All governments are over the 50% mark (as in controlling “the people”). Suppression of the rights of the people is suppression of the rights of the people, regardless if one calls themselves right-wing or left-wing, crony-capitalism or communism.

And you’re right about GMOs. They will be the (early) death of all who eat them.

  4. Suzy says:

GM, as in Monsanto, has been sooo bad that you can’t trust that they will genetically modify anything that will be actually good for anyone the planet. (Think sterility, tumors, hello…) So why be surprised that there are actually people who fight against GM? Now most rational, non-environmentalist people do not trust GM. The Monsanto’s and ilk are out to control the world’s food supply and anything good that might have out of GM has been destroyed by terminator seeds, suicides of Indian Farmers, round-up ready crops and very scary test results. So good luck changing the image of GM.

    • TomO says:

Genetic modification is practiced every day in the human body. We generally call it cancer. Really, NO ONE knows what will happen to a GM product when it goes wild. By that I mean gets cross pollinated or just gets a nice dose of hard radiation causing DNA change. These damn GM scientists are just playing God, but unlike the real deal, they haven’t a true clue what will happen if there is any sort of natural genetic change. It toke years of cross pollinating and checking to see what happens to natural products before they are introduced, yet GM gets to run a few generations to see if there is any recognizable change before it’s pushed out the door as “safe.” I really do believe this goes hand in hand with the AGW prattle to help reduce the population of the world to Ted Turner’s 150 million people, thus getting rid og Henry Kissinger’s “useless eaters.” I think we are “useless” since we don’t all generate wealth for the wealthy, who, it seems, can not be wealthy enough.

  5. CraigRead says:

The whole nexus of corruption – corporations, the idiotic media, politicians, bureaucrats, lying Phd’s, uni’s, the Useless Nations etc. — needs to be eradicated. All funding stopped. All lies exposed. Eco Fascism is dressed up as a ‘religion’, it is of course not a religion but a vicious cult. This is one reason why it won’t be easy to kill it off. They have imbibed very well the propaganda and methods of the twin fascisms of National Socialism and ‘Communism’.

    • TomO says:

You dishonor Hitler by comparing him to these Eco Freaks. All he wanted, originally was a reunited Germany, these anuses want the world and nobody in it.

      • Kyle says:

        I agree actually.

Hitler didn’t go mad until towards the end when he choose to fight a three front battle knowing he didn’t have enough fighters when his goals for a reunited Germany were not quite working out.
