Coldest in more than 100 years in multiple locations.

“Here in Western Oregon, five record lows and two tied records lows, on Wednesday, May 22 2013,” says reader Bill Gannon. “Several records go back to 1905. Here’s an link to the NWS.”

“Yesterday I had to turn the heat back on, as it was cold,” says Bill. “I’m sorry I keep forgetting that “cold is the new warm”. I’m trying hard justifying that to my bones.”

What deluded person thinks that a cold record anywhere means something about global warming?

It’s the extent of cold records over many parts of the Northern Hemisphere this year that strikes me. My Alaskan buddies, and reports on this site, are testament to the severity and duration of the winter. Likewise from my buddies in Newfoundland, New England, and Scandinavia. Here in the Scottish Highlands yesterday, several of the higher roads were closed by snow and this comes after the coldest spring since 1979 and the 6th coldest on record. We can sympathise with those grump Alaskans mentioned in another section of the site.

By the way Mr. Appell, if you’re going to post on Robert’s blog please do us the favor of doing some elementary research. Lazy repetitive Warmist talking points don’t cut it. Here are a few more facts (from geologists):

Earth has been cooling since the Holocene Optimum (5,000 – 7,000 years ago) leveled off and a long decline in temperatures (interspersed by smaller temperatures peaks and valleys) began that continues today.
Upon close examination, one sees that during each successive major warming period, the temperature was lower than the previous. From the Holocene Optimum through the Minoan Warming (3,000 years ago), the Roman Warm Period (2,000 years ago), the Medieval Warming (1,000 years ago) and the current Modern Warm Period, each warm cycle has peaked at a lower temperature. This indicates that we are now approaching the end of the current interglacial period, the Holocene Epoch, and headed for the next major glaciation.

As a minor atmospheric constituent (0.4%), CO2 gas, especially the minuscule man-made portion, has an insignificant influence on Earth’s temperature. It is dwarfed by the impacts from solar activity, ocean oscillations, volcanism, earth’s tilt and orbit, cosmic rays, albedo, and clouds and water vapor, along with other natural factors.

I’m sure you’ll apply the same rationale to heat waves and droughts? Oops, as I recall, it was the Warmists who claimed the Russian heat wave several years ago was caused by global warming? Now, the same nutcases are claiming that the recent tornado outbreak was triggered by the ludicrously named bogeyman called “climate change.”

By the way, as the IPCC and climatologists have been forced to admit, there has been no statistically significant warming for at least 17 years:

For RSS the warming is not significant for over 23 years.
For RSS: +0.127 +/-0.134 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1990
For UAH the warming is not significant for over 19 years.
For UAH: 0.146 +/- 0.170 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1994
For Hadcrut3 the warming is not significant for over 19 years.
      For Hadcrut3: 0.095 +/- 0.115 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1994
For Hadcrut4 the warming is not significant for over 18 years.
      For Hadcrut4: 0.095 +/- 0.110 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1995
For GISS the warming is not significant for over 17 years.
For GISS: 0.111 +/- 0.122 C/decade at the two sigma level from 1996

Global warming is a non event.

I’m across the Columbia River at a higher elevation, about 10 miles inland in Washington state. Our pass on the way to Yakima had 1 foot of snow recently. I gave up on gardening “naturally” several years ago, the sensitive squash & tomatoes kept getting caught by sporadic below zero night temps until July….

Now, a greenhouse keeps plants happy and warmer, not heated yet. Also had our fire place roaring yesterday…..farmers, ranchers notice that their crops get planted about 6 weeks later than normal.
