Icy conditions stretch almost coast to coast - At least 11 dead – Hundreds of thousands lose power – Thousands of flights canceled.

Arctic air, snow and freezing rain moved across the U.S. Saturday from California to the Northeast, as the winter storm that has killed 11 people continued to wreak havoc.

The deaths of at least 11 people — including three in California and the mayor of a small Missouri town — were blamed on the deep freeze.

The big chill extended to parts of the country much less accustomed to it. Parts of Nevada were at 18F below zero; in Flagstaff, Arizona, the temperature dropped to 7F; temperatures as low as 27F were expected in usually mild Las Vegas and surrounding areas, and the National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings for Riverside and San Bernardino counties in “sunny” Southern California.

Five states have recorded at least 2½ feet of snow since Wednesday.

… Record low temperature set at Seattle WA WFO…

A record low temperature of 20 degrees was set at Seattle WA WFO today. This breaks the old record of 21 set in 2009.

  3. MorowbieJukes says:

It actually dropped into the low 20′s here in Las Vegas. Snow is predicted for tonight with a low of 24F.

  4. marque2 says:

But the problem is always Global Warming. The excuse will be – we pumped in too many aerosols, or there is too much soot in the air, which is causing the cooling.

    • R. de Haan says:

No, The the AGW claim is that human CO2 emissions cause unprecedented and dangerous Global Warming.

Don’t mix this up with irrelevant claims and keep your eyes on the ball and don’t mix matters up.

    • Jbird says:

The heat must be “hiding” somewhere in the oceans.

    • Steevo says:

Thank You to the Folks providing forecasting on local and national tee vee with a Global Warmest slant, who in part predicted a rain event along the Jersey Coast. I can tell you right now I’m looking at 4 inches on the Bay Front on the NJ Shore and no signs of letting up. It all started at 11:30 am and the street was covered in a half hour. Thankfully that also means no one has been standing by to plow on Sunday either. Maybe we can fund road treatments with carbon credits.

    *** Headline ***

People are freezing to death from man made global warming !

[The whole CAGW movement looks just plain silly now]

  6. Justin Grearson says:

I think they need to spray more aerosols here in the uk. Im in shorts and a t shirt.

  7. laurel says:

sunday in aus..slow day for news..so you could think theyd mention this?
and one story on UK flight chaos kept repeating it was due to a computer problem
not a word about the massive storms and delays of previous day..
stunning how they manage to totallly ignore! stuff thats real and in your face.
but I bet if just one spot in usa managed a warm day theyd be all over it.

  8. Bob Knows says:

If you believe in “global warming” does it stay warm? Maybe we should all just believe harder?

I vote for Algore and GW advocates to be the first to lose power and/or die from cold.

  9. crabalocker says:

I also love when we get a heat wave in the summer, it’s signs of what we are doing to our planet….irrefutable proof of CAGW. But when we get record cold across vast swaths of North America (cold was to be a thing of only our memories)….all you get from them is…”it’s Winter, big deal…what do you expect?”

    Winter is coming….

    • Wayne Dunham says:

I simply love the weather we’re having here in the Houston area and maybe someday temps in the teens and single digits will return like we used to see decades earlier.

  10. Steven says:

Where would we be with out global warming? Patience everyone, we shall soon find out the hard way.

    John Casey – COLD SUN
    Published on Aug 24, 2013

Climate change has been a perplexing problem for years. In Cold Sun, author John L. Casey, a former White House national space policy advisor, N.A.S.A. headquarters consultant, and space shuttle engineer tells the truth about ominous changes taking place in the climate and the Sun. Casey’s research into the Sun’s activity, which began four years ago, resulted in discovery of a solar cycle that is now reversing from its global warming phase to that of dangerous global cooling for the next thirty years or more. This new cold climate will dramatically impact the world’s citizens. In Cold Sun, he provides evidence of the following: • The end of global warming • The beginning of a “solar hibernation,” a historic reduction in the energy output of the Sun • A long-term drop in the Earth’s temperatures • The start of the next climate change to decades of dangerously cold weather • The high probability of record earthquakes and volcanic eruptions A sobering look at the Earth’s future, Cold Sun predicts worldwide, crop-destroying cold; food shortages and riots in the United States and abroad; significant global loss of life; and social, political, and economic upheaval.

During the next ice age the survivors will build new civilizations in regions that can be considered ice age sanctuaries. The following video identifies civilizations that existed during and shortly after the last ice age. There is alot of poorly recorded history.

.Underworld – Flooded Kingdoms Of The Ice Age (part one) .

    Published on Aug 30, 2013

Graham Hancock’s mind bending series on underwater civilisations, lost to humanity after being buried by the great floods at the end of the Ice Age. Are the stories about a great flood that come from all over the world true, like Noah’s Ark? Do these ancient traditions and myths talk of real events, and can this time be pinpointed to the end of the Ica Age when sea levels rose by four hundred feet? In this programme, a huge city is found under the sea off the Western coast of India which could be related to the ancient Indus Valley civilisation. Does this civilisation go back farther than five thousand years? Also, in southern India a new site is found off the coast…

-10 in Eugene Oregon this morning! Second coldest day. First at -12 was exactly 41 years ago to the day!

  12. Argiris Diamantis says:

Ankara. It is heavily snowing in the Turkish capital city since last night.
People remove snow after a heavy snowfall in Ankara on December 8, 2013.
Heavy snowfall has shut down roads in rural areas across several cities in the eastern part of Turkey.
Ukraine: Several thousand supporters of Western integration braved swirling winds and a heavy snowfall to maintain control of the capital’s iconic Independence Square for the seventh successive day.
Reader’s comment: The pro-Europe demonstrations in Kiev were on the Dutch news. But that the protest took place during heavy snowfall, was not mentioned.

  13. Rosco says:

If the modern “episode” of this “man made” global warming was real then 5 out of 6 of the largest extent of winter snow and ice cover in the northern hemisphere plus record sea ice all year round plus record Antarctic sea ice simply could not have happened in the last decade – YET IT HAS !

The maximum occurred in 1978 and the minimum in 1980 – well before the “unprecedented” warming.

Funny – I remember 1980 as a hot year – really hot Easter in April and extreme heat in November December.

Climate “science” has never been able to give a real scientific basis to the greenhouse effect – it has all been anecdotal evidence based on some contrived observations including minimum SUMMER ice in the Arctic.

But any fair analysis would have to conclude that if you include 5 of 6 record winter snow and ice cover events since the time frame originating in the late sixties early seventies including all of the period of “unprecedented” warming tells a different story to the “preferred” Thermageddon story of climate change.

  14. ShariShark says:

I live in La Pine, Oregon, near Bend. We were at -27F last night. Because the heat in the Arctic is pushing the cold south. Religion is so tough to argue with, one must believe so many impossible things. Heavy, cold sigh.
