Setting new all-time daily records

Antarctic sea ice continues to grow at an alarming rate, says reader Chris Beal.

It’s now 1,636,000 sq km above average, and continues to set new all-time daily records.

  1. JimS says:

It’s worse than we thought. Global warming is causing the Antarctic sea ice to break extent records.

    • Richard says:

That is the most retarded comment I have ever heard. You Commie Secularists Progressives are part of an evil religion requiring more faith than Christianity. We are going to fight you. We will not agree to your stupidity.

      • Robert says:

I think Jim was being sarcastic.

        • JWnTX says:

Exactly. Some people need to get a grip. The progs are killing this country and that’s nothing to laugh about, but the ridiculous idiocy that is “global warming” needs to be ridiculed for what it is. Too hot? Too cold? Too wet? Too dry? Too mild? Too stormy? It’s all global warming! Reminds me of the snakeoil salesmen whose ointment would cure anything from alcoholism to cancer.

        • Alex Bensky says:

Uh, yes, I thought the sarcasm was obvious. And to the point. Note that the envirocrats tend not to refer to “global warming” but “climate change,” and given this, absolutely anything can be taken as probative evidence.

Arctic ice is melting? Climate change. A year later Arctic ice is growing? Climate change? We have an unusually bitter winter in the northern hemisphere…climate change is causing extreme weather.

Actually, I am a firm believer in climate change and yes, I know the difference between weather and climate. How can anyone doubt that the climate is changing?

After all, the climate has been changing for the billion years or so we’ve had a climate. Why should today be different?

          • SASimmons says:

Why, it’s as if you’re saying the climate has always changed, and along with it, all the flora and fauna which depends upon it.

          • Paul Bell says:

“After all, the climate has been changing for the billion years or so we’ve had a climate. Why should today be different?”
That is where the left differs with you. In there view we have arrived at a climatic optimum, or did in the recent past, and need to empower a international bureaucracy to set global energy production policy and thereby control planetary temperature. What could possibly go wrong?

        • Andrew says:

Thought that was obvious sarcasm. Just like when Qatar-subsidiary tobacco farmer al-Gore says that sceptics are in the pocket of Big Tobacco and Big Oil.

      • Reading comprehension says:

Pretty easy to see sarcasm as obvious as that.
You need to dial back the anger….it clouds judgement.

        • Rick Caird says:

I read it as sarcasm, too. But, with no tone of voice or facial expression available on the Internet, I find it useful to add the /sarc tag so no one misreads my intention and embarrasses themselves.

          • eb says:

it’s my belief that if you have to tag something as intended to be funny or sarcastic, you’re doing it wrong.

The joke by JimS was dryly funny. To put a tag on it would have ruined the joke.

      • John West says:

I admire your dedication to reality, but you need to roll it back just a bit. We must hold their feet to the warming, but we need to keep a sense of humor about it otherwise we will become like them … humorless, fools, hell-bent on vanquishing their opponents.

Think about it … the way this whole climate thing is rolling our … we can ridicule these idiots about the warming thing for a couple of generations.

    • Hh says:

Read the article it says the ice is growing not falling apart that contradicts global warming

    • JanP says:

We can solve the climate change problem. We need to install an earth heater, and earth cooler and a global thermostat.

  2. JohnS says:

If we’re not careful this global warming is going to cause the world to have a mini-ice age.

    • Rich says:

Actually if you go back to the 70′s it was global cooling and that we were going to have a new ice age with NYC being covered in ice a mile thick. Then someone discovered it was warming – the polar ice was melting and so it became global cooler, now it is global change – this way it can fit for either way :)

  3. bill says:

the earth has it’s inter-glacial periods when the southern hemisphere is “tipped” toward the sun – warming the oceans.

The earth is now beginning to tip the other way.

    • Andrew says:

The South Pole tips towards the sun at Xmas, and is “beginning to tip away” from it because it’s Easter. You’re going to need a better explanation than that.

  4. Larry Venable says:

Yep those darned amoral conservatives!! Somehow they managed to make the ice in the Antarctic Ocean become thicker.

Seriously global cooling is a joke, and the real reason Al Gore believes it like religion, is he’s figured how how to make millions off it. Of course he did that after he invented the internet….yeah right!!

I’m so not impressed by him, his carbon footprint is huge, he lives a life which is the antithesis of what he wants everyone else to do; and of course, progressives have their noses so far up his rear end that they couldn’t see the forest for the tree’s.

  5. James Cherry says:

Global warming is, after all, only a reason to argue with each other. The planet doesn’t care what we think, nor does it care what we do. More CO2,l less CO2, more or less fossil fuel, just doesn’t matter to the planet. It is a self-adjusting system whose major inputs come from the sun. Humans are just an irritant at the moment.

  6. John McC says:

Maybe we need Michael Moore to make a documentary film on the global warming fraud.

    • andy says:

If that rent a mouth thought he could make money it would already have been made. At the moment all the money is being on the side of AGW and therefore no profit to be made. Cynical me never :)

  7. Eric Simpson says:

OT: but I saw this 30 second video of a bird getting killed by a windmill, and, as I said on Steven Goddard, I’m thinking, this is it, spread the word on this video and it will turn people off to wind power, for good reason.

This is video, 30 seconds. Graphic. Painful. SAD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwVz5hdAMGU

I commented: If anybody watches the video, and after seeing that gruesome bird killing, is still for producing more windmills, I’d be shocked. I mean it would be one thing to say keep the windmills that we have, don’t tear them down just because of birds, but to say that we should produce more of these ghastly bird killers, I would be at a loss for words. And this is just because of the birds, and see that video and you will see that the birds are reason enough, but also it makes no sense from an energy or economic or even a climate perspective to construct these eyesores. None.

  8. Pulse says:

You guys are quite literally cretins.

  9. laurel says:

countdown till some twit does a press release(prob our tame fool flannery or that hugh something ove bloke in qld..nsw?)
claiming the shelf ice is stressed, but the heat induced Cold…. and will snap off kill penguins and raise oceans by mega feet instantly. etc etc

  10. richard says:

that is a lot more sunlight reflected back, brrr ice age on the way.

  11. dscott says:

Just a reminder that the obliquity of the earth varies over approx. a 42,000 year cycle. Ice ages “tend” to end when the obliquity hits its max of 24.5 degrees, however EVERY Ice Age WITHOUT exception starts when the obliquity drops below 23.5 degrees on its path to the minimum of 22.1 degrees. We have passed that point and are steadily moving to the minimum. There will be an Ice Age as determined by the orbital mechanics.

Al Gore is an idiot, rich from conning people, but an idiot none the less, he got a D in science at college. Since when should flunkies get to determine who is moral?

    • BJD says:

What? Dread Global Tilting is destroying the Earth?

Quick! We need an expensive global spending program to tilt us less than 23.5 degrees! Don’t deny that!

  12. LogicalSC says:

Somewhere, some place, a moronic leftist is working up the plan as to why this ‘crisis’ requires for the world to enact some of their asinine, idiotic ideology.

    Ie…..give us your money.

  13. Steve, Greenville SC says:

Thank God! Al Gore and the green movement have saved us!

  14. Scott M says:

How does that square with this?

    https://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/

I tend to be skeptical of AGW, so don’t read into my posting that here as support of same. When I see a headline like “Antarctic sea ice demolishing old records”, one of the first things I do is do a few internet searches to see what others are saying on the same topic.

    You know…like a sane person.

Anyhoo, it seems to me, as a layman on this topic, that the AGW’s have done serious damage to their own credibility over the years, so I always look askance at their claims, but it’s due diligence to look up things like this.

    So…what of it?

    • Robert says:

Your link refers to Arctic ice. My story refers to Antarctic ice. Two very different animals.

Arctic sea ice extent for March 2014 measured 730,000 square kilometers below the 1981 to 2010 average extent.

Meanwhile, Antarctic sea ice measures 1,636,000 sq km ABOVE average, and continues to set new all-time daily records.

    • jbird says:

I was just in the Arctic and have taken photographs of Greenland, Baffin Bay and the Davis Strait, Baffin Island and Hudson Bay. If you read further in the article you cite you will find that multi year sea ice is increasing in the Arctic Further, sea ice in Baffin Bay and the Davis Strait are at 30-year highs for this time of year, even though sea ice has declined in the Barents Sea. (http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2014/03/12/canadian-government-warns-of-the-most-atlantic-ice-in-decades/)
My guess is that weather patterns have quite a bit to do with these variations.

  16. Doug Finley says:

If this global warming continues, I’m moving farther south.

  17. Global Warmism is Crowd think as described by Gustav Le Bon in 1895: The Crowd. Le Bon’s book, The Crowd, although not widely cited today, was arguably the text that had the most influence on the shape of the 20th century since it served as a manual for, among others, Teddy Roosevelt, Adolf Hitler, Lenin and Stalin, Mussolini, Sigmund Freud, and Madison Avenue. Le Bon explains not only the delusions, but aspects such as the religious intolerance and persecution of deniers.

  18. Jim the Engineer says:

It is the unshielded thermonuclear reactor 8 light minutes away that is a trillion times the size of the earth.

This is always funny and proves that AGW or whatever the totalitarians are calling it this year is not science:
    http://whatreallyhappened.com/WRHARTICLES/globalwarming2.html

  19. Roger O. says:

IMO it would be more accurate if the total sea icevolume would be indicated, so surface area and icedepth !
Any statistics on total sea icevolume around ?
I seem to remember some comment on some site concerning arctic sea ice with a large surface area, but shallow depth, due to warmer oceancurrents underneath.

  20. West says:

Climate change caused Richard to misinterpret Jim’s post!

     It is all Arabs EPA
Best Description Of Barack Obama Yet.

The second paragraph of Mr. Wheeler’s statement is perfect.

Jack Wheeler is a brilliant man who was the author of Reagan’s strategy to break the back of the
Soviet Union with the star wars race and expose their inner weakness.
For years he wrote a weekly intelligence update that was extremely
interesting and well structured and informative. He consults(ed) with several
mega corporations on global trends and the future, etc. He is in semi-retirement now.
He is a true patriot with a no-nonsense approach to everything.
He is also a somewhat well-known mountain climber and adventurer.
    Written by Dr. Jack Wheeler

The O-man, Barack Hussein Obama, is an eloquently tailored empty suit.
No resume, no accomplishments, no experience, no original ideas,
no understanding of how the economy works, no understanding of how
the world works, no balls, nothing but abstract, empty rhetoric devoid of real substance.

He has no real identity. He is half-white, which he rejects.
The rest of him is mostly Arab, which he hides but is disclosed
by his non-African Arabic surname and his Arabic first and middle names as a way to triply
proclaim his Arabic parentage to people in Kenya . Only a small part of him is
African Black from his Luo grandmother, which he pretends he is exclusively.

What he isn’t, not a genetic drop of, is ‘African-American,’ the descendant of enslaved
Africans brought to America chained in slave ships. He hasn’t a single ancestor who was a slave.
Instead, his Arab ancestors were slave owners.
Slave-trading was the main Arab business in East Africa for centuries until the British ended it.

Let that sink in: Obama is not the descendant of slaves, he is the descendant of slave owners.
Thus he makes the perfect Liberal Messiah.

It’s something Hillary doesn’t understand – how some complete neophyte came out of the blue
and stole the Dem nomination from her. Obamamania is beyond politics and reason.
It is a true religious cult, whose adherents reject Christianity yet still believe in Original Sin,
transferring it from the evil of being human to the evil of being white.

Thus Obama has become the white liberals’ Christ, offering absolution from the
Sin of Being White. There is no reason or logic behind it,
no faults or flaws of his can diminish it, no arguments Hillary could make of any kind
    can be effective against it.
The absurdity of Hypocrisy Clothed In Human Flesh being their Savior is all the more
cause for liberals to worship him: Credo quia absurdum, I believe it because it is absurd.

Thank heavens that the voting majority of Americans remain Christian
and are in no desperate need of a phony savior.

He is ridiculous and should not be taken seriously by any thinking American.

And yet he got elected, not once but twice. Thanks to those that did not think
it was important to vote for freedom and those that were willing to give up their
    freedoms for entitlements.
Remember you don’t have to be on a southern plantation to be a slave,
if you are dependent on government entitlements you just have a different slave owner.
PASS THIS ON TO EVERY THINKING AMERICAN YOU KNOW!

    • Guy Wilson says:

Not to hard to accomplish this day and time as majority of public mostly accept what the media throws at them without looking behind the doors.
The Elect Obama campaign was the hardest pushed campaign the news media has ever pushed. The people did see him as a type of savior who was going to save the world from wwIII, as presented by the biased media moguls.
Now it is looking like we will have some large wars on the horizon(hope not), and a financial collapse due to hyper inflation.
We do have enough racial hatred going on around the world which is strongly being promoted by this administration.
I beg to say that the world leaders today are stewarding the enslavement all. If most of us were able look into our ancestry we would probably find we were either slaves or slave owners at one time?
Most of my contacts are fearful of a major war which seems to be promoted by all the major governments. And as surprising as it may sound LK most of the original Obama supporters are finding it difficult to swallow that their so called economic, war, religious savior(HAH, destroyer would be a better term) is actually going to allow the financial collapse of a once strong and thriving country.
What the religious tolerants of the left(this day and time can not leave the right out sorry) did not realize is; to have an entire political change based against embedded religious roots one must first bring about the financial ruin of that country before introducing a new form of government. The road is rough and hard. Will leave it at that.

The political brainwashed are waking up to the lies and making the warmists crying louder and louder and also screeching like idiots!

  23. Carl H says:

Ixnay on the terms ‘Global warming’ and ‘Global cooling’, true believers. Let’s stick w/the term ‘Climate Change’. That way we’re right, even when we’re wrong!

  24. John the 1st says:

Any thoughts on Arctic sea ice levels?

  25. FrancisChalk says:

The utter ignorance and political hackery of the most recent IPCC report is stunning. Anyone who thinks the predictions about manmade Global Warming are anything but contrived, ideological, bought-and-paid-for science is clueless beyond fixing.

  26. katarax Fred says:

It’s no longer Climate Change, it’s Irritable Climate Syndrome because it produces nothing but s**t.

  27. MaxMBJ says:

You know, that red line of ice anomaly in the above graph looks suspiciously like a, gulp, hockey stick. An ice hockey stick.

Michael Mann will not be pleased. He may sue, in fact.

  28. James Oliva says:

How are we now going to blame George Bush for global cooling?

We are all doomed, and it is his fault, he did not warm the globe sufficiently to ward off this tragedy of Biblical proportions.

  29. James Oliva says:

PS Maybe we can delay this by taking down our solar panels converting our home heating to coal.

  30. Guy Wilson says:

Hello drier winters for the south with extended cold.

  31. Guy Wilson says:

2/3 of the state of Texas is now under massive drought not lol.

  32. chilly says:

It does not surprise me that Antarctica is breaking all records as we are headed for a mini ice age. In Sydney we were getting really cold icy blasts till November 2013, then a pitiful summer and it’s getting cold again now in April 2014. I used to go swimming up to mid may and I can really feel it. July/August is going to be extra cold this year and we will probably see the shelves extend further than last year. I will wait and see.

  33. Nathan says:

The good thing about this global warming theory is, it will be verified or nullified within 10-20 years. Global warming scientists (who are virtually all liberals) have put their intellectual credibility on the line with this theory, and if they are wrong, no one will take the liberal scientist seriously anymore. They are egos out on a limb waiting to fall hard

  34. mensawantsme says:

you are all a bunch of blithering dolts. it’s PLATE TECTONICS. which pushes the Arctic ice up, giving a false result for ice thickness. Geeees, am I the only one who knows this ?? it’s time to stop plate tectonics

  35. Kenneth Lund says:

yes, massive global cooling continues at an alarming rate, as well as all-time record snowfall…….

  36. scf says:

Who knew warming was cold? This means I should be able to freeze ice cubes on my barbecue.

  37. cv says:

Say what you want, but this makes sense, within the GW paradigm if the Global Thermohaline cycles are slowing down. And in fact it has been demonstrated that this is EXACTLY what is happening. So stay in your filter bubble and we’ll see how things look when the stuff really hits the fan.

    • Robert says:

Ah yes. Global warming causes more ice… and makes it colder… Hell, global warming even causes ice ages. Talk about a “filter bubble.”
