Luxembourg roads closed after trees collapse under snow

16 Jan 2016 – Heavy snowfall on Friday caused a number of roads in Luxembourg to be blocked.

The CR102 road between Keispelt and Schoenfels was still closed on Saturday as a precaution after trees laden with snow risked falling onto the road.

On Friday, a tree fell blocking the road from Drauffelt to Weicherdingen and it was a similar story on the road between Kaundorf and Nothum and Eisenborn and Stafelter.

Access between Gresteen and Landscheid will be closed for the entire weekend.

According to the Luxembourg Automobile Club (ACL), the road between Dippach and Holzem was blocked at 9:30am by several cars which were stuck in the road.

The A7 northbound was blocked at the Grouft tunnel from Stafelter following a lorry accident.

The club urged motorists to avoid the A6 motorway exit at Arlon-Luxembourg, after it was blocked by three lorries. Meanwhile, three buses blocked “rue Emile Mayrisch” in Esch-sur-Alzette”, and the road between Emeschbach and Wintger was closed.

Luxembourg’s meteorological office, MeteoLux, issued an orange alert in the north of the country on Friday. According to the agency, between 5 and 15 centimetres of snow were expected to fall over 12 hours.
