Heavy snowfall in northern Japan – Residents evacuate

Four feet (120 cm) of snow is expected in areas of Hokkaido by Wednesday morning, according to local media. 

19 Jan 2016 – Snow began falling across eastern and western Japan on Monday, causing huge delays in train operations in Tokyo.

About 4,000 households in the coastal city of Nermuro  were given evacuation warnings, as the danger of a flood increased, Japanese media reported. 

Public buildings such as libraries and city halls are being used as evacuation centers, local media said.
